If you have a 2.4g wireless home phone, it will adversely affect your WiFi. If using a wireless internet connection, you need to upgrade to 5.8g cordless phones.Comment

If it has a CE mark on it or and FCC part 15 (or something similar) then it isn't putting out much EMI.
A 2.4GHz cordless phone will knock out your wireless too. My microwave is about 10ft from my router and I have no problems and mine is about the same age as yours.
Check the power, I bet that has more to do with it. Or, if your kid is always making stuff in the MW when on the phone, then check your phone frequency. If it is 2.4GHz, then get a different phone or run a cable.1987 E30 325is
