This place is like catholic school, 2/3 of the students smoke weed on a daily basis, but the faculty seems to convince the outside world that drugs are just in the other schools, the resident pot dealer thinks he's cool because he has the originality to call anyone he doesn't like a homosexual, and most of the little children follow him like sheep, then there's the few with brains, you hardly ever hear from them, perhaps don't even know they exist, but they get all the sh!t done.

Please explain to me, why are Americans so willing to meekly surrender their right to privacy, and hand their government unprecedented powers to spy on its own citizens?

Why can't Americans recognize the ultimate insult of your government choosing to name this instrument the Patriot Act?

        It's all the same issue.

If you question the government's right to spy on you, you're somehow not a Patriot. If you question your governments right to drag you from your cars at random highway checkpoints, then you're a disrespectful dick deserving a beating.

The Bush regime manufactured a panic over totally non-existent weapons of mass destruction in order to whip its citizens into a Patriotic fervour, dragging your nation into an unnecessary war in Iraq that will soon accomplish nothing [if you can overlook the countless casualties] other than bankrupting your country and dragging the entire world into recession. And very shortly the Bush regime will be permitted to slip into retirement with absolutely nobody being held accountable [other than the countless casualties] for any of this global disaster.

And what have you got left to show for all this?

The Patriot Act, Homeland Security gestapo dragging people from their cars, and a concentration camp called Guantanamo.

        Precisely.

        You should be sorry.
Because government passed something we had no choice about means we all gave up the right willingly eh. And because we wont all willingly show our disdain for cops we "feel" aren't doing a "valueable service", we are all giving up our "rights".
Time to remove your head from your ass now.

You think this is just a matter of respect?!?

If someone gets raped, it's only a crime to you if the victim was being respectful before getting raped? But if the victim "asked for it" by being disrespectful, then it's all okay if (s)he gets raped?!?

Your Constitutional rights apply equally to ALL Americans, whether you're black or white or even Hispanic, male of female, polite or even a disrespectful dick. You are ALL entitled to the same rights. Your law enforcement officers are bound to operate under those rules. The moment things cease to operate like this, that's when anarchy starts.

If it boils down to a mere contest of who is showing respect, then the guys carrying the machine guns and wearing the swastika uniforms are always going to win at that game.

Someday soon, they'll starting knocking on your door, asking your "permission" to search your house. Are you going to meekly step aside? You'll say yes sir, sure sir, I'm an American citizen with nothing to hide, therefore I have no objection to you searching my house, or my car.

After you have volunteered your consent to a search it'll be too late for you if they find the porn stored on your computer, and you'll get arrested because of some right-wing fanatical religious leader who has decided that his Bible makes it illegal for you to view porn.

Your neighbours, hiding behind their curtains, will wonder, when the nazis asked your permission to search your belongings, why didn't you simply say, "no"? Didn't you know that unless they have probable cause or a warrant to search your car, it's still your Constitutional right to say, "no".

Once all Americans have been conditioned to believe that it's "disrespectful" to stand up for your Constitutional rights, then you're truly fucked. By then it'll be too late.

              Evidently, it's already too late.

Apparently everyone already believes that only criminals ever insist on having their Constitutional rights respected. If you've done nothing wrong, have nothing to hide, then why would you need to ask the law enforcement types to respect your rights. Obviously you wouldn't need a lawyer to speak for you unless you're guilty of something. If they ask for your permission to search your car, obviously you must be a criminal if you refuse to give consent to a search. And therefore, since you're obviously a criminal, and a disrespectful dick to boot, suddenly the Homeland Security goons think it's okay to drag you from your car?

Once everyone has accepted this to be normal behaviour, it won't be long at all before the rest of you sheep meekly accept to sit at the back of the bus, because the front of the bus will be reserved exclusively for Homeland Security officers. Anyone with enough balls to question such unfair treatment, the very rare brave Rosa Parks amongst you, will be given the treatment suggested by your champion Blunt and "killed on the spot".

The remainder of you worms won't mind being enslaved like this, because as long as you're always respectful to your superiors, clicking your heels and saying "Sieg Heil", as long as you haven't broken any laws like trying to sit at the front of the bus when you're proper place is at the back, you'll have nothing at all to worry about. Everything will be just fine. Really it will.
You forget that these "rights" work both ways. We as americans also have the right (and trust our government to act on our behalves) to protection within our borders. A simple question from an authority during a heightend level of security within our borders should be answered or questioned with respect. Reasonable suspision is the lowest item the totem pole when it comes to these situations (meaning, if they "think" you might be guilty due to your actions, they better make sure you're not). The second this individual repeated "am i being detained?" more than two or three times, gives the officer cause to think there is something wrong. it is now within the officer's "scope" or "rights" to protect the other people around them and have a heightend sense of urgency towards the driver. Which of course is why there is a secondary stop. You can question the officer as to whether this is an infringement of your rights all you want. But if the officer deems it a situation where "reasonable doubt or suspision" comes into play, then they are within their RIGHTS to take the correct action in order to secure the situation. Then I truly think a court of law will side with the officer in this case. Not the guy who is un-cooperative, repeats himself constantly, won't roll down his window, and actually CALLS someone while conversing with said officer.
              Common sense.
Oh and Ferdinand. you can bring all the rederict you want into this thread. you can be crass with civil rights quotes. You can try to compare us to mindless lemmings, and try to bring up things that were historicly wrong like WWII germany. The simple fact is this. Treat people with the respect you would want to be treated with.
This is something that transcends your "points". the officers were being respectful, why couldn't he just answer the question? it is the same reason my bank asks me for ID every friday when i deposit or with draw funds in person.
If I walk into an airport with something ticking, someone better ask me why. if I say it's "within my rights" to carry a ticking object OVER AND OVER AGAIN, and I am not taken down..... there is a serious problem.
And as far as the "front of the bus vs. the back of the bus" thing goes, i liked how you linked it to Hitler and the nazis. That's a huge connection I never though of. Like the crusades, or almost everything in africa right now.... or wait, maybe the stoplights on your corner are run by our facist government. Maybe tomorrow you should run one in protest, then maybe, just maybe, one of those buses you so fondly brought up will t-bone your shit box.... then maybe you might come to the conclusion when a police officer comes to your aid, that some people up there are trying to look out for your well being... no matter how weird or backwards they may be. Somewhere on that officer's uniform will be his or her name. Make sure to memorize it like the guy in the you tube video. Ask for their badge number as well. You owe them a debt of graditude.
              Good luck with that stoplight.

i thought it was kinda funny how they didnt want to answer weather he was being detained or not. why couldnt this dick just say yes to the question of weather he was a citizen or not? well why couldnt the officers answer the question to weather he was being detained or not? it was a simple question either way.

Looks like you need to watch the video again. They do tell him he is being detained. But only once he's caused enough of a problem.

The police officers who daily put their lives on the line for you, going out to do the shit jobs that neither you nor I would ever have the balls to do, the police officers who keep the criminals from taking over and running your country, those police officers have earned and are due the utmost deepest respect and gratitude of the people.

The troops who are sent overseas to fight and die in senseless wars for you, in unimaginably stressful and violent situations, just so that we can all sleep safely at home in our beds, and enjoy our freedoms like wasting endless hours on forums like this, those troops, who have died and whose names in the thousands decorate memorials like the Vietnam wall in Washington, and especially those troops who have survived to come home again and must somehow find a way to lead normal lives, those troops deserve our utmost deepest respect and everlasting sincere gratitude.

Those troops, and those cops, daily do their duty to uphold your Constitution, to serve and protect you.

Those troops do NOT deserve to come home and find themselves being dragged from their cars by overzealous Homeland Security forces at some random immigration checkpoint 100 miles inland from any border!

No matter how fiercely we disagree with the reasons for going to war, or the reasons for enforcing laws, this discussion topic and all of the arguments presented in it are not about showing respect for cops, nor about "showing our disdain for cops".

When you and your government start allowing Homeland Security officers to drag people from their cars at random checkpoints far inland of any border, absent either probable cause or consent, then you have an obvious problem. This has nothing at all to do with showing respect. This is a clear violation of your Constitutional rights, and a clear violation of a US Supreme Court ruling in "US vs Martinez - Fuerte" reaffirming those rights.

When you stop challenging such abuses, when you start believing that it's somehow disrespectful to challenge such abuses, when your friends and neighbours start bullying you and saying you should be shot for being such a disrespectful dick because you choose to challenge such abuses, can't you see that it's the beginning of the end for you and your Constitution?

The First Amendment to your Constitution says:
                            Amendment I

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
Your Constitution gives you the right to speak out when there is an injustice. Many countries around the world don't permit their citizens to complain if they think their government is doing something wrong. Certainly not in public forums like this.

You have the right, guaranteed by your Constitution, to say anything you please in public. And the off-topic section of this forum allows you to broadcast your opinions to the world on any topic you please, it doesn't even have to be about BMWs.

That means you are entitled to say anything you wish here. It's your right.

It's not a bad idea though, to give a little thought beforehand to what you are writing. In your case, Joshh, your writings make it obvious to everyone in the entire world that you have nothing but dandelion fluff and empty space between your ears, as is so amply demonstrated by your earlier comments, but most particularly by this latest gem:

Once again, please refer to your Constitution. The very first line in fact.
The Constitution of the United States of America

"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
You the people, you are the government.

You vote to elect people to represent you in all levels of government. You choose to receive blessings like the Patriot Act, Homeland Security, and Guantanamo, because of who you voted for. You are to blame for this!

If you don't like what your government is doing for you, pull your head out of your ass, stop wasting time diddling yourself while watching porn, move your stretched fat ass off your couch, and contact your elected representatives to tell them exactly what you want them to do for you. If they're not working for you, elect someone else, or run for office yourself!

The SCOTUS has ruled roadside checkpoints legal and not a violation of the 4th, long before the Patriot Act, Homeland Security, etc... that's why there are DUI/Driver License checkpoints all around, especially during the holidays. They also reached the same conclusion regarding checkpoints for illegals, also years before the Patriot Act:

If you run into a DUI checkpoint this holiday season, act like the asshat in the video and see what happens.

                              Then post your experiences.

BTW, driving is a privilege, not a right and not covered by the 4th amendment. You have different rights in your home then when out in public in your car.
