    Opel Astra sold under Saturn in the US

    Opel (the European GM) has a hot hatch for sale in Europe. The type of car with great handling and okay power that we have been waiting for a long time. The Opel Astra is a better version of VW's Rabbit/Golf. The car is currently being imported in Canada and surely in the US too. Strangely, instead of selling the car under the GM brand, which could help the company revive its image, they are selling it under Saturn. You know the brand with plastic cars that don't realyy inspire confidence and cries out loud you are different... I wonder what the GM marketing guys are thinking. Didn't they get yet that this hot hatch is exactly what the brand needs? Now... One more occasion to convince me that GM really deserves to go bankrupt...

      GM's marketing probably realized it would be far easier and cheaper to market and sell this car under an already well established brand name here in the USA versus trying to create success around another brand name that is not all that well known stateside amoung the targeted market this car would be sold to...

        He, he. Maybe you care about the billions they are handed, taken from your taxes, because GM's management has been so lousy and didn't realize the 1960s are over.

        My point is that GM missed another occasion to revive its image and reassure us they are indeed changing.

            Could they have sold that Opel Astra as a GM Astra? GM is a very well established brand.

                    Buy GM one can only assume you mean GMC they are a truck/SUV brand

                    brands that sell cars
                    Pontiac= the sportier lines for the young crowd
                    chevy = the affordable car for the working man
                    saturn= that young alternative green friendly line
                    caddy= the successful business professionals car
                    buick= old people car

                    in this new green friendly deal which line would you put that hatch back into as saturn has been struggling for some time now.

                      A lot of new cars look like electric shavers.

                        Massive Lee, GM has been doing this all along. The current Opel GT is the Saturn Sky, and a decision to make the next generation Opel Vectra and Saturn Aura the same car was made a few years ago. It was made far in advance of the current crop of financial troubles.

                        Please stick to what you intimately know--the zesty taste of my sweaty balls in your mouth.

                          Lee, what are you on man?

                          Saturn's been selling rebranded Opels in the US for 6+ years now.

                              So, who wants to buy a Saturn, when Pontiac is the sporty branch for younger people? How many kids want to be seen in a Saturn? What's Saturn sporty history?
