The "True American" thread has already been read more than 3,000 times. Obviously somebody found it interesting enough to read. So, please, allow me one final rebuttal. I'll keep it under ten paragraphs, using easily verifiable facts. After that, I promise I'll shut up.

Your founding fathers took great pains to ensure that church and the state were kept far apart. The Constitution makes no mention whatsoever of "God". The phrase "ONE NATION UNDER GOD", comes from the American Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag which your schoolchildren are trained to recite while saluting the flag. The original version of the pledge was penned in 1892, 105 years after the Constitution, by Francis Bellamy. The original pledge made no mention whatsoever of "God".

The flag salute was officially replaced by Congress in 1942 with a hand-over-the-heart gesture, because the original Bellamy salute too much resembled Hitler's Nazi Salute, each of which were copied from the much earlier Roman salute.

The phrase "ONE NATION UNDER GOD" was only recently added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954, at the height of the McCarthy era, 167 years after your founding fathers wrote the Constitution. The "UNDER GOD" portion was adapted from Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address, which starts with, "Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

Yes, it is correct to say that the American Civil Rights Movement began long before Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, both of whom actually were "True Americans". The Civil Rights Movement can be traced back at least as far as 1787 when the US Constitution was adopted as the supreme law of the United States.

How can anyone permit their biblical beliefs to create such a distortion of historical fact? It is as much fiction to claim that your Nation was founded on religious guidelines laid down by the Bible, as it is to claim that Santa Claus lives at the North Pole.

If Santa actually does live at the North Pole, that would mean he is most likely a Canadian or a Russian. So you might just consider keeping your eye on him when he's sneaking down your chimney in the middle of the night, hence, I suppose, the need for a handgun in your bedside table.

Thanks. It's been fun debating with you. I apologize if I've offended anyone. May the New Year bring you enlightenment. Good-bye.

Very true and correct about the pledge and what not...but go through and read the letters written between the founding fathers. You will find what I stated to be very true. No where was the seperation of church in state ever put into anything. The 1st was written that no religion would be shown favor over another...what you are talking about with seperation of church and state is an small portion taken from a letter written by Jefferson. As far as religous claims...go back and look at all that paperwork, oaths, letters, and official paperwork for this country since its founding. You will find with out adoubt mention of God and Christianity. Regardless of when "One nation under God" was added, this nation was started by Christians...and as such is a nation under God.

As far as santa, he was created by Americans...taken from the German useage of St. Nicholas...the story of Santa was written by I think it was baptist or catholic priest/preacher.

What is with your negative atitude about guns? Have you ever been held at knife point or gun point? or ever been shot at? Have you ever been in a situation where you where fully 100% afraid that your life would end right then and there? Untill youve had someone make you completely powerless will you understand the leverage and the need for firearms.

When the people fear the government there is tyranny.
When the government fears the people there is liberty.

Edit: And I'm pretty sure that concept is what the Canadian was arguing over in the beginning of that thread, yet whenever the gun issue came up he was actually against what he was arguing for in the beginning.

I guess that most americans don't like to be told they are not "Number One", either as a country or as a citizen. There are three things a guy doesn't like to be told:
                      That he is lousy lover.
That he is a lousy driver.
And that he is a lousy citizen.

Being a good citizen doesn't mean having to be submissive to the government. Being a good citizen means having the capacity to stay in check and sometimes say NO to an abusive authority. It means being criticial to what you are subjected.

Americans have been brainwashed like crazy in the past 8 eight years. The spin doctors in the Bush admin. have found all he keywords to make American believe that submitting is being a good citizen. And they won. From Guatanamo to being "patriotic". From the Evil triumvirat to "being with me or against me"... You guys got raped... You have lost any critical sense.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

                            Lee,

You do know bush administration has one of the all time low approval ratting. Doesn't that make most of what you said sound a little off, just a bit?
