DOT ? Hmmm... Are DOT helmets accepted at track events? Nop. The standard is so bad it is worth nothing.

But what's your point Vedub? You wished you could afford a kit but can't?

Don't worry. One day you'll get a job and have some money left at the end of the month

    Militant Islam Threatens Us All
Hamas rockets have the same terror goal as Hitler's blitz.

    By BENJAMIN NETANYAHU

Imagine a siren that gives you 30 seconds to find shelter before a Kassam rocket falls from the sky and explodes, spraying its lethal shrapnel in all directions. Now imagine this happens day after day, month after month, year after year.

If you can imagine that, you can begin to understand the terror to which hundreds of thousands of Israelis have been subjected. Three years ago Israel withdrew from every square inch of Gaza. And since that withdrawal, our civilians have been targeted by more than 6,000 rockets and mortars fired from Gaza. In the face of this relentless bombardment, Israel has acted with a restraint that other countries, faced with a similar threat, would find hard to fathom. Israel's government has finally decided to respond.

For this action to succeed, we must first have moral clarity. There is no moral equivalence between Israel, a democracy which seeks peace and targets the terrorists, and Hamas, an Iranian-backed terror organization that seeks Israel's destruction and targets the innocent.

In launching precision strikes against Hamas rocket launchers, headquarters, weapons depots, smuggling tunnels and training camps, Israel is trying to minimize civilian casualties. But Hamas deliberately attacks Israeli civilians and deliberately hides behind Palestinian civilians -- a double war crime. Responsible governments do their utmost to minimize civilian casualties, but they do not grant immunity to terrorists who use civilians as human shields.

The international community may occasionally condemn Hamas for putting Palestinian civilians in harm's way, but if it ultimately holds Israel responsible for the casualties that ensue, then Hamas and other terror organizations will employ this abominable tactic again and again.

The charge that Israel is using disproportionate force is equally baseless. Does proportionality demand that Israel fire 6,000 rockets indiscriminately back at Gaza? Does it demand an equal number of casualties on both sides? Using that logic, one would conclude that the United States employed disproportionate force against the Germans because 20 times as many Germans as Americans died in World War II.

In that same war, Britain responded to the firing of thousands of rockets on its population with the wholesale bombing of German cities. Israel's measured response to rocket fire on its cities has come in the form of surgical strikes. To further root out Hamas terrorists in a way that minimizes Palestinian civilian casualties, Israel's army is now engaged in a ground operation that places its soldiers in great peril. Carpet-bombing of Palestinian cities is not an option that any Israeli leader will entertain.

The goal of this mission should be clear: To end the current round of missile attacks and to remove the threat of such attacks in the future. The only cease-fire or diplomatic initiative that should be accepted is one that achieves this dual objective.

If our enemies assumed that the Israeli public would be divided on the eve of an election, they were wrong. When it comes to exercising our most basic right of self-defense, there is no opposition and no coalition. We stand united against Hamas because we know that only by defeating Hamas can we provide security for our people and hope for a future peace.

We fight to defend ourselves, but in so doing we are also fighting a fanatical ideology that seeks to reverse the course of history and throw the civilized world back into a new dark age. The struggle between militant Islam and modernity -- whether fought in Afghanistan, Iraq, India or Gaza -- will decide our common future. It is a battle we cannot afford to lose.

Mr. Netanyahu, Israel's ninth prime minister, is the chairman of the Likud Party and its candidate for prime minister.

It is a completely invalid point in the discussion of Hamas brutality and illegal activity.

However, read the first article that you linked. The only fact in there is that the US sells weapons to Israel. The rest of the stuff in there is just random and inflammatory quotes from a CNN correspondent made to sound like it is coming from a Pentagon spokesman. It is not news and it is not factual. Only a moron who can't do a shred of critical thinking would consider that article valid on any level.

Again, you are dodging the issues here by trying to pull in random, unrelated, and misleading tripe.

Hamas is evil. Hamas is subjugating the Palestinians. Hamas is killing children. It's like innocently throwing a child into the lions den and faining shock and horror while blaming the lion for killing the child.
See, that person believes America is a state sponsor of terror. He believes George Bush is a terrorist. He believes Israel is a state sponsor of terror. That's why he was chomping at the bit to post the links proving, in his mind anyway, his beliefs about America and Israel.

Tuvia Grossman tells in his own words how Palestinians tried to lynch him, and how this event highlights the power of the media to influence public opinion.

I was thrust into the international limelight when The New York Times and other major media outlets published a photo of me -- bloodied and battered -- crouching beneath a club-wielding Israeli policeman. The caption identified me as a Palestinian victim of the new intifada. In fact, however, I am a 20-year-old Jewish student from Chicago, studying at a yeshiva in Jerusalem.

    Here's how it all happened:
It was the eve of Rosh Hashana, and I hailed a taxi with two of my friends to go visit the Western Wall. Along the way, the driver took a shortcut through one of the Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem. We turned a corner and suddenly there were about 40 Palestinians surrounding the car. Before we knew it, huge rocks had smashed all the windows of the taxi.

Some of the Palestinians pulled open the door and dragged me from the vehicle. About 10 attackers jumped on top of me, punching and kicking me. I crouched to the ground, and tried to cover my face to protect myself as much as possible. All I could see were a flurry of sneakers kicking me in the face.

Then I felt a strong pair of hands grabbing me, and I uncovered my face because I thought someone was trying to help me. But it was just another Palestinian; he held the back of my head and punched me square in the face. I fell flat on the ground and the Palestinians jumped on top of me again. One of them stabbed me in the back of my leg, ripping through muscles and tendons. Two other Palestinians held my head so I couldn't move, while two more bashed rocks onto my head... again and again and again.

By this time the beating had gone on for about eight minutes. I had already lost three pints of blood and was losing consciousness. I said "Shema Yisrael" -- the declaration of faith that a Jew says before he dies. I tried not to black out, because I was sure if I did it would be the end.
Because it was the eve of Rosh Hashana, the image of a shofar flashed through my mind, and I recalled a Biblical story I'd learned in school. The prophet Gideon and his 300 men were badly outnumbered against the Midianite army of 130,000. So Gideon's troops banged pots and blew shofars, hoping that the noise would scare the enemy. With God's help, the ploy worked, and Gideon won the battle.

So I yelled at the top of my lungs. The Palestinians were startled momentarily, and I was able to get up and run. Unfortunately, I am heavily nearsighted and my contact lenses had fallen out. So there I was -- barely able to see a thing, with blood pouring down my face and my leg badly wounded -- being chased up a hill by 40 Palestinians throwing rocks at me.
It was a miracle, but I somehow outran them and reached a gas station where Israeli soldiers were posted.

I collapsed on the ground, and that's when a group of freelancer photographers started snapping pictures. An Israeli policeman was protecting me, yelling at the Palestinians to back off from finishing the lynching. But the photo -- sent throughout the world by the Associated Press -- identified me as a Palestinian. The obvious implication was that the Israeli policeman had just beaten me. In truth, it was the total opposite. I was a Jewish victim of Palestinian attackers.

It's bad enough to be beaten bloody, get stitches up and down my head, and have my leg so severely stabbed that therapy is required to regain use of it. But to be used as a pawn in the media war, as part of the Palestinian propaganda to gain international sympathy, well, that hurts even more.
When a photo gets published, there are many links in the chain, and in this case, I don't know where the fault for the garbled caption lies. But it is deeply disturbing that the New York Times, the Associated Press (and everyone else in-between) assumed that if it's a victim, it must be a Palestinian.

There is a great struggle here in Israel and this event highlights the power of the media to influence public opinion. If truth is to prevail, we can't just "read" the newspaper. Be discerning and become part of the process. Otherwise, you're just a passive object of someone else's agenda.
Who are the innocent victims and who are the aggressors? The truth is often the opposite of how it appears.

I would say, if the truth is to prevail, don't purchase or read the New York Times, an enemy of America and truth. The media is controlled by factions with political objectives, and the people are told what the factions want them to be told. Witness that joke called the last US election.
The fanatics across this land all march in lock-step and chant in unison what it is they are told to believe.
For the fanatics, to recogize your story goes against their programming. It would cause a memory overload and crash their hard drives.
I knew from the coverage in the election the New York Times and their ilk were enemies of America. But I had no idea how low they might go to sustain their political view. There is one possible explanation which I will share. The truth is the truth. The truth is a hard thing to come by in these days.
Those photographers taking the picture, if they saw what happened, first they should have done something to help. Second, they KNEW what happened, and any copy editor would have asked the photographer what to put in the cutline.
This is also a possible explanation: It is possible the photographer lied to the New York Times or AP, when he or she was asked what happened. Photographers on news staffs are for the most part not journalists. Somewhere along the line they felt left out, so they were called "photojournalists."
In any event, they process the film or download the pics. The picture here was a good one.
But the Times or AP, when receiving the picture, asked the photographer to explain in a few words what happened. The copy editor wrote the cutline, not the photographer. Given the crowd around you, depending on what was seen, it should have been obvious what happened.
The photographer also should have asked the policeman what happened. If I was taking the picture, I would have asked for, or followed up to find out if you would share the story. This is tough, because obviously the person could have been dying and asking for the story there would have been shitty. But perhaps I could have gotten a name and followed up later.
That would have been the right way to handle it.
Given the competition in the media, each photographer would have been in somewhat of a rush to get their pictures to their papers first. Of course, not all the photographers got the money shot.
Is it possible it was an honest mistake I suppose, but not likely. Either the photographer lied to the copyeditor, or the copyeditor changed the cutline to reflect the political view of the paper. Either way someone should have been taken out to the woodshed for a beating. It's horrible.

I enjoy your posts and links.

Israel is using weapons supplied by the United States to harm Palestinian civilians and destroy civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip in violation of the US Arms Export Control Act and the Geneva Conventions.

And why do you think Hamas, and PLO's Fatah before, are doing that? War would be over if Israel released the pressure on Palestinians.
Nobody gives a fuck what a person who thinks America is a state sponsor of terrorism thinks.
