Well kinda needed to bump this thread due to new info, posted in the gun thread as well.

Just like I have been saying all along and it would not take the the new Change in govt to act against the 2a again.

    ABC new 2/25/09

The Obama administration will seek to reinstitute the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.

"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.

Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.

"I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum." Holder said at a news conference on the arrest of more than 700 people in a drug enforcement crackdown on Mexican drug cartels operating in the U.S. Mexican government officials have complained that the availability of sophisticated guns from the United States have emboldened drug traffickers to fight over access routes into the U.S.

A State Department travel warning issued Feb. 20, 2009, reflected government concerns about the violence.

"Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades," the warning said. "Large firefights have taken place in many towns and cities across Mexico, but most recently in northern Mexico, including Tijuana, Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez."

At the news conference today, Holder described his discussions with his Mexican counterpart about the recent spike in violence.

"I met yesterday with Attorney General Medina Mora of Mexico, and we discussed the unprecedented levels of violence his country is facing because of their enforcement efforts," he said.

Holder declined to offer any time frame for the reimplementation of the assault weapons ban, however.

"It's something, as I said, that the president talked about during the campaign," he said. "There are obviously a number of things that are -- that have been taking up a substantial amount of his time, and so, I'm not sure exactly what the sequencing will be." In a brief interview with ABC News, Wayne LaPierre, president of the National Rifle Association, said, "I think there are a lot of Democrats on Capitol Hill cringing at Eric Holder's comments right now."

During his confirmation hearing, Holder told the Senate Judiciary Committee about other gun control measures the Obama administration may consider. "I think closing the gun show loophole, the banning of cop-killer bullets and I also think that making the assault weapons ban permanent, would be something that would be permitted under Heller," Holder said, referring to the Supreme Court ruling in Washington, D.C. v. Heller, which asserted the Second Amendment as an individual's right to own a weapon.

The Assault Weapons Ban signed into law by President Clinton in 1994 banned 19 types of semi-automatic military-style guns and ammunition clips with more than 10 rounds.

"A semi-automatic is a quintessential self-defense firearm owned by American citizens in this country," LaPierre said. "I think it is clearly covered under Heller and it's clearly, I think, protected by the Constitution."

So what are the little changes to the AWB, could it be the list that was posted earlier in this thread?????

Well last time I checked we could not get grenades in the US to give them to the mexicans, and to get a full auto you have to got through about a year of paper work and get a tax stamp. SO after spending 8k+ on a M16 I kinda doubt a person is going to sell it illegally to a mexican dug lord. Just more propaganda bull shit to try and dupe the people into giving up more rights. Thai has been tried before and it did not work last time with the stats to prove it, yet they will push this for their own agendas.

I sugest you guys that support the 2A in the least, write your representatives and start soon, to try and stop this before it happens. Will do any good may be it will may be it wont, but at least voice your opinion.

People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people.

Also, Article 10 NH State Constitution:

[Art.] 10. [Right of Revolution.] Government being instituted for the common benefit, protection, and security, of the whole community, and not for the private interest or emolument of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, whenever the ends of government are perverted, and public liberty manifestly endangered, and all other means of redress are ineffectual, the people may, and of right ought to reform the old, or establish a new government. The doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power, and oppression, is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind.

Hence the "all other means of redress" part, revolution is a last resort.

The only use I could ever find in owning an assault rifle would be to protect myself from an attack by extra terrestrials. I guess they would also come in handy in case there happened to be a zombie uprising.

Until then, I'm going to worry more about THE GOD DAMN ECONOMY.

I don't think most people that own an assault rifle own it for self defense. It's hobby, just like fixing up an E30. A rem 870 is for home self defense.

Wagon: Please define Assault weapon for us????? Then maybe we can have a discussion about them.

Eric: You are right not all dems are anti 2A, I have 3 from my state that get a-b ratting form the NRA, but there are enough that dont to pass this especially if there is some pork attached to it for the moderates states to get them to vote yes, solely for the pork.

Define "assault weapon?" If you aim to prove that i'm ignorant, then you are right. A quick search at Dictionary.com sez: a military rifle capable of both automatic and semiautomatic fire, utilizing an intermediate-power cartridge.

I'll start the discussion on them by saying that I think they're really cool and all but I don't think I'll ever need one. Moreover, I could care less what the government thinks about them since I would rather they spend 100% of their time investing in the industries that will pull our country out of this economic implosion.

Ok wow got you it right, You took the time to actually look it up and not just go by the scary looking military gun thing, I applaud you for that. You may be saved yet.

I will educate you really quick, Assault weapons and a few other things have been regulated since 1934. Yes we can have a full auto assault weapon, but it must have been manufactured before 1986 (supply is limited to about 175,000) you must pay a rather large tax to the ATF, you must undergo a lengthy back ground including a mental history check, and it takes a almost a year to get through all the paper work, and prices start at 5k and go up from there. To get a M-16 you will be looking at about 8k to start, these class 3 weapons are good investments as they go up in value. Also in all of history has 1 murder occurred with a lawfully owned full auto weapon in this country, so to stop crime and make the streets safer line is bogus and used by the anti 2a crowd to stir up support through ignorance of the facts in the general population.

Just because it looks like a Military gun dose not make it a assault weapon. Its no different in operation than any other semi auto rifle used for hunting or competition. As in one trigger pull = 1 shot fired.

As far as industries to save the economy, gun and ammo manufactures are running at full tilt right now trying to keep with orders, I read some where recently that between colt and DPMS alone are back ordered something in the neighborhood of 100 million dollars in orders. And thats for AR style rifles alone from just 2 manufacturers. You cant find ammo right now they cant make it fast enough.

I will say one thing for this administration its a hell of a gun sales man, the firearms industry is growing at a rate never seen before in this country. There are roughly a 100 million gun owners in this country and addign new ones every day. Thats 1/3 the population of this country, any time 1/3 of the people are buying anything and pricey items at that it will help the economy. Is it the whole answer no its not, but its a part of it, look at all the factories that make the supplies and weapons, look at all the people in the sotres that sell the stuff, all people that still have a decent job and making more money than they have in a long time.
