This entire country could do with a healthy dose of common courtesy.

Every day I wake up we drink a lot of coffee and watch the CNN
Every day I wake up to a bowl of clover honey and let the locusts fly in.
    Lobsterbacks attack the town again
Wrap all my things in aluminum
Beams of darkness streak across the sky
Pink rays from the ancient satellite
Every time I look out my window same three dogs looking back at me.
Every time I open my windows cranes fly in to terrorize me.

My favorite is people who post wheels or something craigslist that is still attached to the car. I showed up at this guys house to look at a set of wheels and he still had them mounted and wanted my rims as a trade so he didn't have to set his car on blocks. (plus the cash he originally wanted of course)..

I have a love/hate relationship with Craigslist. Sometimes I have to deal with the annoying people, Other times it is a very positive experience.

I just picked up a Everlast Triple Threat Boxing Gym+gloves+wraps+ A separate leg up station he didn't have listed but threw in for free for $200 and the thing is barely used.

Then the same day I went to look at some heavy bags this dude had who used to fight in an amateur league, I ended up getting a repacked(no sand only shredded blue jeans) mui thai style 115lbs heavy bag and a 75lbs hourglass shaped grappling bag for $100 and the dude bought me and my GF lunch to boot! lol

Another guy just called, showed up promptly, was super polite, and respectfully made an offer under my price. I accepted, he paid with cash, and shook my hand after the deal was done. The difference between this guy and the other 2? He was 68 years old. Hmmmmm...

He knows how to respect people and does what he says he will. He's from a time when people were actually respectful of other people.

You're 100% right, but the way I look at it is this- the cost of "entry" is so low, that you have the choice to either deal with the flakes, or just don't list anything.

The potential for screaming deals remains high- even though the flake-factor for sellers is as high or higher than that for buyers. I recently looked at a pretty nice older Cornwell toolbox with a bunch of tools in it- I went to look at it on a Friday night after work, the seller (a lady) said the box belonged to her dad who was a fleet mechanic for a local town, he passed away a couple of years ago and she was just getting rid of it. She had it listed for $700, but it was still not sold after about 2 weeks. I left, told her that I was interested and would call her back either way that weekend. I called on Sunday afternoon, offered her $500 cash and told her I'd pick it up that afternoon. She said "Oh, another man came to look at it today when I wasn't here, he talked to my mom and I think he's coming back later to get it"....I told her again that I was ready with the $$$ and could be there with a truck in 15 minutes. She said she'd have to ask her mom what she told the other guy and she'd call me back.

This was about 3 weeks ago and she still hasn't called.................

The people that kill me are the idiots who email me when I have something listed for say $900, they say "hey man, I'll give you $400 for XXXX". I used to play their game, but now I say "if you come and look at the XXXX in person and bring cash, we might be able to negotiate a little, but I can't take $400 for it"..... I never hear from those folks again.

My thing is, if someone is serious about buying something from me, they will take the time to come see it in person before trying to lowball the shit out of me.

Another excellent example- we have some empty steel 55 gal drums at work, I listed them on CL with specific info about how much they are, what they had in them and when I would be available for buyers to pick them up. I have gotten probably 10 emails asking if they could come over to pick them up on weekends, at night, etc- when it's CLEARLY spelled out that I'm at work M-F 8-5 only.

Yup. I got probably 5 emails from people asking if the locks for the doors on the canopy worked and had keys. It says clear as day that all 3 locks work and have a key.

When I had my Bahamabeige 325E on the list with pics of it with no motor and in the listing it said car doesn't run like 5 different times, Never did when I owned it. Fucking thing was listed for 300$ and people were asking if it ran and if they could make it run at my house and drive it home. The listing said this.

                        87' Bahamabeige BMW 325E Auto *PARTS CAR/PROJECT*

And the first line was this in all caps.

I've had several good experiences with CL, both buying and selling. BUT . . . last year, my wife won a Tom Tom that she didn't want. It was still in the plastic package so we posted it for $25 under the street price. I got an email with a low ball offer and I politely said no. Next thing I know, I got a filthy email from the dude and then he posted up saying I was a scam artist! The one person I did have interested, called and changed his mind because his wife had seen the other dude's post and thought it was legit. I threw it up on the 'bay and got what I was originally asking.
Best part is though, the guy that emailed me was selling something I wanted and when he responded via email, I recognized his email address. Reminded him of his rudeness and how he cost me a sale and now karma was bitting him in the ass.
