qew takes you all the way up to toronto. you can get to it from any bridge in the area. takes about an hour and a half to 2 hours depending on traffic

        +1

Go to Pano's Restaurant on Elmwood Ave. for a good meal, then hit up any of the bars on this street for a drink. Head up to Chippewa St. to get drunk with the college kids, or head out to a Sabres game for a little fun. QEW takes you into Toronto from the various bridges as ColdAccord mentioned.

if you're into the more artsy/eclectic thing, hit up allentown (allen st. by elmwood). chippewa is tough, alcohol+testosterone usually =fights.

there is an incredible variety of foods from around the world. We have a world class art gallery, a history museum built during a world's fair, and we're a half hour away from one of the 7 wonders of the world (niagara falls). plenty to do here

We just got through some snow in Toronto but the roads are not to bad but it's pretty cold(dress warm) QEW will get you into the city, are you staying in downtown Toronto? lots to do and see there like Eaton center, clubbing district on weekends. What do you like to do? sports bars, clubs, sight seeing.

the unfortunately abandoned central terminal is on of the most beautiful buildings around...

                buffalo is pretty boring though

Thanks for the info guys..I'll probably hed up to Toronto..I've heard about the fights that break out in some of the downtown areas..

I've also heard about this thing.."Thursday in the square??" Has that stopped since the weather is cold? When does it start up again?

Elmwood Ave is ok..I can't really compare Buffalo with Baltimore haha but it will have to do for the next 4 years that I'm here.

we also have the psych center, done by Henry Hobson Richardson; the first american architect to be recognized worldwide.

in addition, we have a bunch of frank lloyd wright houses,

                    a joseph ellicott skyscraper

                    ellicott sq building

city hall, the only federally funded building anywhere near that magnitude to continue construction regardless of the great depression

the central terminal, which has a solid effort to prevent further dilapidation. it is rented for parties all the time, I've been inside for a few halloween parties, Artists & Models for a few years, etc.

Fredrick Law Olmsted & Calvert Vaux's park system connecting the ENTIRE city

in the summer they have paddle boats you can rent at hoyt lake, in the winter there's ice skating
city honors, my old high school which is currently receiving $50 million in updates (voted #4 school in the nation, btw)

                    a vibrant theater district

giant renovations going on downtown, including the development of the waterfront by 2011 when we get the IIHF World Junior Championships (millions of people visiting buffalo)

you can take tours of the naval fleet, there is a boat museum right there as well. we also just opened the Birchfield Penny Art Museum, adding to the incredible museums we already have. when they develop the waterfront they're adding the channels to freeze and have ice skating on them

we have stops from the underground railroad, we have music festivals arts festivals corn maizes, etc. so much to do here.

elmwood avenue was voted in the top 10 best neighborhoods

we were also just voted 44th in places to visit in the country, ad well as in the top 30 for prospective home buying

I could go on and on. here is a website outlining a lot of the gems of buffalo. the list i made doesn't even come close to even beginning to scratch the surface of buffalo's contributions to architecture. Hell, a house I was going to buy last year is often visited by architecture students from around the nation.

if you don't try and enjoy buffalo, you won't. if you try, you will.

COLD ACCORD thank you for all the information!! It's like I already got a tour of the city! I don't mind this city at ALL..I was never a clubbing or bar type of person, so this city in my eyes isn't lacking in that department. The people have been super nice and I really haven't had any issues. My next adventure is the museum...supposedly there is a Friday night special or something..

As for a Buffalo Meet..I'm down..right now I have my winter bottlecaps on and my car is full of white snot..needs to be washed again! I just bought a set of Style 10's which I need to go pickup back in Baltimore..so once I get those on in the summer let's do it!! I should warn you guys though..I was at a meet with a few other people and developed a nickname.."Revlimiter." My car is pure stock so I'm not that fast..

Oh COLD ACCORD..a few of the residents want to go skiing..we are first timers so which place would you recommend? Holiday Valley is what I've seen on the tv commercials but I would rather take your advice.

Thanks again for all the information! Its greatly appreciated..:pimp:
