You don't need an extra program.

If you are using windows go to tools folder options or something like that, then check a box that says "show hidden files." Then enable disc mode on your iPod, open up "My computer" and click on your iPod, you will see a bunch of files like F11 and so on. These are all songs, copy them all to your computer, throw them in iTunes and voila.

This is for xp by the way, I'm sure vista is similar if that's what you have. It's been a while as I have a mac now.

I feel slow, and that was the reason I didn't get an Ipod.

Do any of these methods import the playlists and everything?

Umm. I don't believe so. I take it you lost all of your music and only hae it backed up on your iPod? There has to be a file in there with your playlists, I'm just not sure if it's the same format. If you look in your itunes folder there is an library file or something like that with all the settings. I'm not sure if the iPod has a compatible file saved onto it. Try google.

Truth. This is the same for non-Apple devices like PS3, etc.

From what I'm aware of, clicking and dragging the music files from the F01, F02, F03, etc. folders (located in My Computer -> iPod) does not import the playlist(s) only the songs themselves.

Ok I'm about to try it with the mini once it charges. I bet the huge one with the whole library is going to take forever.

Thats why my main MP3 player is the Iriver, that thing is easy.

Alright I just did all that but I just go to a normal windows explorer looking screen and it had a music folder and I just copied everything over. It is sitll letting when I am not in disc mode. Is it because all these songs are wma files instead of mp3s?

All the songs should be mp3. All you do is go to My Computer, access your iPod, click on the first folder (usually F00,) and highlight everything in there. Then drag everything to your iTunes library. Do the same for folder F01, F02, F03, and so on. There usually is no fuss, sometimes you might have to rename the music file on iTunes.

My folders and music files were named already instead of Fxx as you are saying, I don't know why but I followed your advice for everything else and it works.

Floola actually looks interesting. I might get my friend to try it out.

years ago (as in, 1st-generation ipod) i helped a friend out who was trying to do the same thing- we found software called ephpod and it made what you're trying to do relatively quick and easy. it looks like it's still being published/supported:
