I didn't like the movie. It was pretty difficult to follow. I think it was made for the watchmen enthusiasts who followed the comic book. They didn't explain the characters very well.. it took me a while to figure out who everyone was and what their part in the story was.

extremely graphic. Why did the blue guy have to be naked all the time?
also, I would like to have seen what the world would have looked like today, rather than in the 70s. They had a good concept with "how the world would have been", but I don't think they pursued it very well
Anyway, I would give it a 6 out of 10.

Fuck man, you didn't pay the least bit attention if you thought it was the 70's. Rorschach said 1985 about 10 times.

When Blade Runner came out in the early 80's, it was advertised as an action/sci-fi movie. In fact, it wasn't an action film but was very slow and thematically complex. It ended up getting shit on by both critics and the audiences and bombed at the box office. Now, almost 30 years later it is considered one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time. Watchmen is very similar. It is being advertised as an action/super hero movie when in fact there is very little action in it. It is all about the themes and the characters. 30 years from now this will be considered one of the greatest super hero movies.

If you understood Dr. Manhattan's character, you'd understand why he didn't care that his happy blue wang was hanging out all the time. Neither did all the little high school kids, who kept giggling every time he was on screen.

I'll tell you what thought, I was having an AWESOME time pissing of the pudgy little 16 year old bitch in front of me by talking shit about Twilight the whole time before the movie started.

Just got back from it tonight, I thought it was well done. Some of the music seemed very out of place (*cough* the sex scene *cough*) but overall it was composed very well. It will be almost impossible to make an entertaining movie truer to the actual book, practically every single scene and the majority of the dialogue was taken straight from the illustrations. One friend in my group hadn't read the book and he was pretty confused for most of the movie but still said he enjoyed it at the end.

I didn't have a question, I just stated my opinion on the movie. Like I said before, if I were in fact a watchmen fan from the get go, I probably would have enjoyed it.


It would be better if it were like any other comic book film, or film for that matter (ie. batman or iron man), where you could go into it without knowing a lick of the background, but still understand who a character is and the reasoning for their actions.

The big problem with completely "containing" a/the story in the movie was that it would have drawn a lot of criticism from Watchmen fans, due to the fact that the story itself would have needed to be significantly altered. Watchmen fans seem to be quite a bit more dedicated and "purist" about the story than most other series, possibly because it was only 12 issues and it was written as a single story rather than a long-running comic like Spiderman, Batman or Superman which can be adapted in any way. You can see that Zack Snyder really kept that in mind by how true to the book it actually is. There would have been a lot of hate going around if he had strayed away, rather than just confusion and people accepting it as a purist movie instead.

I think it was perfect. I'm a die-hard fan of the book, and even with the liberties Snyder took to make it more digestible, it was still amazing. I had very few, minimal issues with it.

Not many really. They left out a few scenes and side stories. The montage at the beginning wasn't part of the book. The ending is different but has the same effect. Watchmen is the most faithful comic book adaption to date.

It wasn't part of the book, but it had a lot of scenes from the book in it, that wouldn't have worked with the rest of the movie. It had a lot of backstory scenes, and a lot of nods to scenes in the book. The opening was one of the most impressive segments of the whole movie.

Okay, I just got back from seeing this...

*minor spoilers*

I'll get this part out of the way... I loved it. I thought it was an excellent adaptation of the novel, and as a movie it stood well on it's own two legs. Well shot, well paced, and very entertaining.

I read the graphic novel about 3 years ago. I thought it was an excellent story, one of the best "comics" I've ever read (I've read many). The character work is brilliant, and the way it all comes together just goes to show why Allan Moore gets the respect that he does as a writer.

As far as the movie is concerned, I think they made all the right moves. Having read the book 3 years ago, it wasn't exactly clearly remembered, so I wouldn't know to be picky about many of the smaller details (which as far as I'm concerned, may have helped in my enjoying it). For the record, they did leave out a lot of detail, mostly with respect to the back story... but that's to be expected of any movie adapted from a written source. The little nuances of a book always get left behind, which is usually what makes the book so great in the first place. I can't say that I think it hurt this movie, because the thick of the plot was intact, if slightly altered. The little details don't really matter, because the lengths they went to to keep everything else intact was much better than expected.

As far as acting goes, I have no complaints. Rorschach was bang on, I was thoroughly impressed with him. Even unmasked, he just had the right look about him. I was a little surprised that he kept his mask after the prison break (as opposed to the novel), but I can see why it would make sense from a movie point of view. Dr Manhattan was awesome, yet there were a few things that bugged me. His back story sequence was awesome, it got me all worked up (the music was just right). For those complaining about his dick, grow up. It makes sense for his character... I just wish they included the little bit about the government wanting him to cover up for his role in Vietnam, would have been funny and addressed his nakedness in the first place, as well as explaining why he was occasionally wearing the black covering. His mouth bugged me a little... he was mostly CGI, and his mouth didn't always move right... but it was close enough for it not to be an issue. I also thought the Night Owl got it right (no one mentions him). Malkin was alright as the Silk Spectre... but damn her tits are small. Haha. Not that I mind looking...

As far as the ending goes, I have no complaints. It works in the movie, and they do a good enough job tying up the loose ends. The squid would have been cool, as far as I'm concerned, but it needs a lot of setup which the book did well... it would have been tough to do in the movie.

I'll be curious to know what they include in the extended cut. For the record, it won't be 4 hours long... I think they're adding roughly 25 minutes on to the existing 2h45. But I'm curious to see what they include and what they still leave out.

Awesome movie, I was not disappointed and would recommend it to anyone.

The biggest thing they left out was the dialogue from the paper vendor. I didn't particularly enjoy his character anyways so I'm glad they left it out. They also left out the fight between the two women at the end which would have worked nice in the movie, as well as the murder of Hollis Mason by the knots. The only part I really wanted to see that they left out was Rorschachs finger breaking scene near the beginning.

Yeah, I wanted to see that, too. They had that bar scene in the movie, where the bartender is all freaked out that he's there, but they didn't do the finger-breaking. They also placed it later in the movie than it was in the book.
