    Great series. They took me the better part of 2 years to get through, but they were fantastic.

    I've found that when you're reading a super long series like that, as soon as you get tired of reading the books, take a break. Read something by another author, or just a break from reading in general haha. You'll enjoy the books that much more when you're voraciously waiting for the chance to read the next chapter :D

    Did this with both the Game of Thrones books and these, and it worked out well.

      ZAMM is an excellent read, one of my favorite books. Lila, Pirsig's continuation of his delve into "Quality", is on the shelf; I plan to read it over the holidays.

      Currently reading Sellar's Stoicism.

        Just about finished with the Bourne Identity. Honestly, I didn't really like it. Maybe it's because it was published in 1975, but it's very dry and drawn out and just kind of boring. I love the movies, but they are nothing like the book.

            Good read, if we're going for car-themed books. I've been making my way through the complete works of H.P. Lovecraft, but that's a different kind of reading.

            And another, if you're an F1 guy;

                The Guns of August. great info for anyone interested in world war I. the author won a pullitzer prize for this one. the problem is that it was written by a chick and i fucking hate her prose. it is a painful read with so much great information i am forcing myself to trudge through it.

                if you have any interest in war history, check out an author named jeff shaara. he can actually write.

                  I've read just about every one of Ludlum's books, and I was a fan of his writing - especially the Bourne series. I didn't think the movies did the books justice (isn't that pretty much always the case though? The Clancy books/movies had the same problem), though part of that is because they were done in different generations. The way Ludlum's books are written I can understand the need to jazz them up a bit for a movie, especially in these short attention-span times. There's a whole lot of plot and character development in them that just can't be effectively squeezed into < 120 minutes.

I read the first one for a high school English class in 2002, then around 2006 I found the book and re-read it in college. Read Speaker for the Dead shortly after, and decided to finish the last two in the past couple of weeks. Great reads, if anything I can appreciate them a lot more being a bit older and married since they are basically all about the relationships between characters. I may pick up some of the other books that focus on the other characters. I was actually sad when I was done with the main series since it really sucks you into the characters' lives and I wanted to keep reading.

                    Someday I will read the Dark Tower series since I have hears so much about it.

                    Most of the books that I have read in the last few years have been science-related. Feynmann's QED was a really interesting read, and Schrodinger's Rabbit was another one that put quantum theory into layperson terms that I could understand. Feynmann's The Pleasure of Finding Things Out was a very good read and gave some neat perspective on life, and Faster Than The Speed of Light was interesting and entertaining at the same time (contained f-bombs lol).
                    Best series of books he has written IMO.

                        I've heard from my SO that ASOS is pretty slow. I'm almost done with ACOK I just get bored on Cat chapters and put it down for 4 days, I understand why she has to be in there but it just gets to be a broken record kinda thing...

                                Just finished reading Memoirs of a Hack Mechanic by Rob Seigel, a writer for Roundel magazine. Really good read about his history of owning a ton of different BMW's and his take of how owning them has built life long friendships. Great read for any car person, specifically BMW owners. Felt like I was having a conversation with another car guy while reading it, if that makes any sense. lol
