It had a missing axel and it didn't pull at all? Sorry, I don't believe that at all.

He's not talking about a halfshaft. It's the driveshaft that connects the transfer case to the front differential on an IX. I can't imagine that driving the car without the front driveshaft could be good for the viscous coupling in the transfer case.
