    Bricks are being shat....

Over this cartoon which aired in the New York Post:

Heres the article. Its an ok article, but I want to here the really intelectual commentary like they always manage to get (i.e. DL Hughley, Jay-Z, P Diddy, etc)

Leaders of the NAACP on Saturday called for the firing of the New York Post cartoonist whose drawing lampooning the federal stimulus bill has drawn charges that it's racist and encourages violence toward President Obama.

I usually don't give a shit about these sorts of issues. For example, when that radio guy made a comment about "nappy hair", it was obviously just a slip of the tongue and I am sure he regretted it, no big deal. This cartoon however, required a lot of thought. It is VERY obvious what the cartoon portrays. Obama wrote the stimulus bill, a monkey is being shot, so they are portraying the President as being a monkey and getting shot. It was racist and deliberate.

i can see how they think they have an argument. however, things are being taken to a similar extreme that muslims take visual depictions of Muhammad.

        1) Obama didn't write the bill, Pelosi and Reed did so if anything chimp= Democratic leadership.
        2) It is a reference to something that seems friendly and cute, but is really a rampaging monster that can and will kill you.
        3) It should have been an 800lb Gorilla instead of a chimp.

The ACLU is yet again out of line. If the first thing that comes to your mind is that chimp=black man=Obama, then I would suggest that you are the racist. Their reaction to this is exactly the same as radical islamists calling for the murder of journalists for portraying Mohamed as anything but holy or jailing a school teacher for naming a stuffed teddy bear Mohamed after the students voted on it.

The ACLU is overreacting to something that can be taken any way the reader chooses to take it. I choose to read it like #2 above. Both situations, the "stimulus" bill and the rampaging chimp, are tragic.

Bush looked just like curious george and everybody loved those parodies... I don't know how deliberately racist this is but it doesn't seem like a huge deal to me and I voted for Obama.

            Lets have a bloody revolution!

(I just got back from filing 2008 taxes so this mood of mine is subject to change after I cool off)

I think they were meaning the stimulus "package" was so srewed up and useless a monkey could have wrote it up. But folks will see it in their point of view.

the cartoonist was referencing the chimpanzee that attacked and almost killed a woman last week. again, it probably wasnt the brightest idea on the part of the cartoonist, but to demand he be fired is a little ridiculous. there are far more racist images that have/continueto be circulated for years in popular culture.

The problem there isn't with the cartoons, it is with the religion. The fact that Muslims were outraged just because Muhammad was depicted in visual form is ridiculous regardless of whether the Quran says it is wrong or not. Islam is fucked up for many reasons, but thats a different discussion.

As far as the issue with the cartoon, it is portraying a very important black man as less than human. People are understandably pissed.

Thats what they are saying but how in the world does the stimulus bill have any connection to the chimp attacks? The cartoon makes no sense whatsoever if you look at it from that perspective.

i was referring to the hypersensitivity of a portion of black culture. which is similar to the hypersensitivity of a portion of islamic culture. i understand race and religion are two different things. also, barack obama isnt "black"

i think thats the point. taking two things from the news and combining them. again, i dont think it was the brightest idea, but i wouldnt call it racist.
