To clarify... I am neither for nor against Affirmative Action. There were (and in some places still are) companies and employers that would not hire blacks simply based on their skin color. Affirmative Action served to help offset that by forcing those same employers (and everyone else) to hire blacks. In theory it makes sense, however if another group is discriminated against as a result, then it is flawed. Both options are less than desirable but until someone proposes a more sound alternative, I don't see much harm in it.

Obama is not black. Obama is not white. He is half black, and half white. I'd like to use paint as an example here: let's say we take a can of Apline III and pour half of it down the drain. (The EPA? Fuck the EPA.) Then take a can of Schwarz I and pour half of that into your can of Alpine III and stir until the two are evenly blended. You would then have gray so using that logic, Barack Obama is now a Gray President. All you gray activists better get your shit together...

By that definition there are about 3 black people in this country. 99.9% of people in this country are mixed race. I have been told that I have African and Native American in me but my skin is white. Black is used to identify someone with a physically noticeable amount of African descent. Obama has a physically noticeable amount of African descent, therefore he is black.

i have several times. for county and state jobs in the late 70's. because i wasnt a minority or female. my father brought home police reports filled out by a black officer that was hired under affirmative action that made r3v posters look like rhodes scholars. ebonics before ebonics had a name. it was sad really. i recall taking a civil service test where there were 700 applicants and 8 openings. 6 were for minorities and one for a female and one "other"
i guess i was that other. didnt matter who was more qualified. only your skin color and gender. so yeah, affirmative action sucked then and sucks now.

I agree with you blunt, but you, having experienced the discrimination first hand, can attest to the frustration and anger it creates within you as a result of things beyond your control. It is wrong to discriminate against anyone based solely on the group they belong to. No two ways around it.

And to be fair, there are police officers of Caucasian descent that have written police reports using broken english that were probably hired solely based on their color so it goes both ways. Had these laws not been put into action, deserving minorities (including women) would simply have NO chance at getting certain jobs. As a result of this law, some under-qualified, undeserving people got hired. Like i said earlier, it sucks on both sides. But until someone proposes a suitable alternative....

That is basically my point, although I was hardly being serious. Most people are mixed-race in this world so all this bullshit is moot.
