I would do a lot of reading if I was in your situation. I have books on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (for manipulating the shit out of people) and Lucid Dreaming that I've been meaning to tear into for a while. I think the foreign language idea is good as well.

You might want to get some downloads going right now too so you've got some shows to watch too. Trailer Park Boys and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia are great time consumers if you haven't seen them yet.

Good luck with the recovery man. I wish you well.

I hope your chemo works as well as it did for my dad. He got to stop early and when his hair came back it was thicker than before. He said that doing low-stress exercises (think tai chi) helped him a lot.

I would definitely be reading a lot if I were forced to sit around. I'm sorry to hear you've got some hard times ahead, but you'll be a better, stronger person for it. My step dad recently beat prostate cancer, so I at least know how your family feels.

But back to what this thread is for: There are a bunch of different things I want to do. I want to travel all over the place. It seems you can't do that at the moment though. I recommend that you go skydiving if you have the strength. I had a parachute malfunction and I thought I was for sure dead for the 10 seconds before the reserve opened and that got me higher than any drug could.

If you are forced to stay at home then I would read. Hang in there man.

well i don't think you feel like moving much ha?
i would read a lot! there is so much to read! i love history, books about viruses, detective novels, and cook books because im in school to be a cook. also any car, wood work, or metal work magazines/books are cool and filled with knowledge! here are some recommendations.
-anything by Kurt Vonnegut (might not be your cup of tee but i think hes tight!)
                      -Time Life Books WWII
-Reader's Digest Illustrated Story of WWII
-The Hinge Factor, How Chance and Stupidity Have Changed History by Erik Durschmied (this one is a great and easy read because it is a bunch of shorter stories)
-The Hot Zone by Richard Preston (gripping and a bit scary, and #1 best seller New York Times)
-The Cobra Event by Richard Preston
-The Demon In The Freezer by Richard Preston
-Germs: Biological Weapons and America's Secret War by Judith Miller (did you know the Russians made vodka in the same fermenters that they had used to make weapons grade viruses?)
-The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle
-Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
-Sick Puppy by Carl Hiaasen or any of his other books (funny detective novels, they are also easy to read)
i also really love classics like the Iliad and the The Odyssey by Homer. Those are the real stories of the Trojan wars. Kinda long reads though.
watch movies. torrents are your friend!!! work on small projects, and spend the time learning and doing things you have always wanted to do. it is not often in life you get to sit around a lot. then when you are better and you have saved a butt load of money by sitting around and doing nothing buy an s52!

                      ps
i dont know how old you are but im only 21 im sorry that you have to go threw all this and i hope you get better soon man!

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and great encouragement.

Having cancer is like watching someone hijack your body and poison it and then burn the sh.t outta your throat. Its hard when you are so used to being active to suddenly become a bowl of energy-less pudding.

But know what? I can't complain. I see children with cancer and I am willing to bet none of them have an e30 or a place like this to come to.

There are alot of great ideas here and I plan to do them. I will learn sign language and start taking thai-chi.

I will post and reach out to this community because it really helps.

Next thought. Hat ideas. Post what you got. Nothing off limits to cover this balding head. This too shall pass.

                        Thanks everybody!

I will pray for a speedy recovery.

In the mean time, get plenty of vitamins try to promote your health.

I also like the rosetta stone idea. Watch lots of movies, play games, have people visit or have sleepovers.

                          Good luck brother.

Do you think you have a high chance of dieing with this cancer?
I don't know much about cancer, but I've heard some are easy to
                              get ride of.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I've felt like mine knocked me down, held me there, and then slowly pecked away at me. It has been very hard to get back up at times and you need to believe, right now, that you yourself are the first and last most important part of your well being. It will hurt those who love you so pause every so often and thank them for their support.

It is good to try to learn something new and do something productive. Occupying your mind with future goals is very therapeutic. Me? I sitll strategize fixes to my E30. As long as my build is taking, my car will be friggin' bulletproof.

Take some time to do some practical things though, like organizing the notes about your care, budgeting for health costs, and making sure you're covered if you end up missing lots of work...

The treatment is likely to cloud your brain so taking good notes now and collecting/organizing copies of any tests you take will keep things clear in the future. Ramping up your savings now can help prevent sudden expenses from hurting you down the road (mine just jumped suddenly with a change in insurance plans). While you have a clear head, study whatever disability insurance coverage you have as if you had been on it for a year. Figure out what the limits are, what requirements you may/may not have to meet, and if there are any milestones that change your coverage. Learn about how returning to work, even while being treated, will affect your benefits. I'm walking a fine line between being able to work part-time and still bringing in the other half of my income right now. My benefit reduces to 80% next month (1 year) so I'm making sure the budget doesn't suffer. The cash saved early on doesn't look like it will be needed.

Nipping these off now while you're strong will relieve you of tons of stress down the road. And realize that; you are just as strong today as you were before this happened. Yes, you're going to be weighed down soon, but that's tomorrow. Work with today and tomorrow will be easier for it.
