It's usually a sticky when it's active, but it's not going down this year, as far as I can tell.

Doubt there's even enough people who would be down to even make this happen.

Definitely too late to start. I personally was too busy this year to orchestrate the R3v SS (did it two years ago), but I kind of agree with Burg. The forum has dropped off considerably since last xmas. Blah.

I agree but I don't get it. FB or whatever else people are going to just doesn't compare.

I guess the new forum style was a change but I still see it as a big improvement

I don't think the new forum is responsible for the slower days around here.

It's been slowing down well before that update hit. R3v facebook is where everyone seems to be nowadays. I don't understand the reason why people are flocking to that group rather than the forums.. you can't search for shit..

If that traffic were coming through here, it would be like the older days around here, but people are probably going to stick with FB.

Right there with you. I much prefer to forum environment, but FB must be doing something right. Screw searching for shit, they'll just re-ask the question!

I can send one of you a used timing belt if you want some E30 parts?...

seriously though, my heart breaks seeing forums die off because of facebook. that place is such a shit show. hopefully with some of the changes and the collaboration of R3V with the BMW E30 CCA we can get something special happening here.

(My) Problem with FB is that it's just not a good format for DIYs, build threads/journals, or searching for answers to technical/mechanical questions. It's fine for posting photos that don't need to be searched based on context (family, cars, etc). It's fine for selling/buying things. I prefer the forum format for everything else, but maybe I'm just dating myself as I've been tied to forums for 20+ years now.

R3V is an encyclopedia of E30 knowledge while FB just seems like brief snapshot in time soon to be lost forever. Does anyone else enjoy reading through a long build thread, journal, or technical discussion even if you've read it before? Hell, I like going back through my own threads and seeing the progress I've made. It's a sense of accomplishment.

Back in the late 90s/early 2000s I was a member on audiworld.com. Even then, it had pretty antiquated forum software as vbulletin was the "new hotness". Audiworld "upgraded" their software and completely lost their member base nearly overnight. I don't see the R3V upgrade as such a drastic change compared to the audiworld upgrade. The dark theme has a very similar layout to the pre-upgrade version. Searching still works well. It's unfortunate that there's seemingly so much less traffic here these days.

R3V is great. I've made great friends through R3V. I've seen "international meetups" result from conversations on this site. Despite only being here for ~4 years, I've seen so many great things result from this forum community. Long live the R3V forum.

R3V has been slowly dying. To the point where I have thought about making spam accounts and posting ridiculous things just to make it lively for the few that would be frequent enough to see it.

Yeah, Myself and a group of friends used to rule Golfmk6.com back in the day.
We made an offshoot Datfourm d o e.com as a result of being tired of dealing with vendor infighting.

But, a small group of us go to TN every May for a tail of the dragon trip, and all remain very close. We are on our 6th secret santa too.

Had it been done, I would have loved to participate. I enjoy gag gifts.

I was wondering about this as well as it usually gets started before Black Friday. We have been busier than normal this season though, so I didn't get a chance to follow up on it. Hoping that there will be enough interest next year to do it again.
