You guys go on and on about how bad socialism is and how big government is bad but you really haven't thought about the alternative. Capitalism is the real bully here.

In the early days of capitalism, before European social reforms of the 19th Century, men, women and children worked 16 hour days in highly dangerous and miserable factories for dirt wages. Most people didn't go to school, because there was no public education, and life expectancy was around 30 years due to highly dangerous working conditions. THIS IS CAPITALISM FOLKS!! Without the checks and balances of social programs, Capitalism IS the government.

It wasn't until drastic social change happened, mostly in France, that people started getting paid more reasonable wages, public education sprang up and people began living longer and more fulfilling lives.

France, one of the more socialist countries, has one of the highest standards of living and life expectancies on the planet. Just remember that when you use socialism with a bad connotation. Were not talking about Communist Soviet Union or China, but socialist France.

I understand that socialism is a hard concept to grasp, especially given how much of a capitalist country we are. But once we get over that hump and implement massive social reforms, things will be MUCH better. Everybody will have access to public education, health care and jobs. Everybody can live a good life rather than just the person who is fortunate enough to make enough money.

there are no jobs, there is permanent high unemployment, nothing to look forward to. they want out.
your looking into a vacuum when you argue socialism is better. maybe ina utopian pipe dream, but when tried by mortals and all our collective weaknesses and prejiduces, it flat out does not work as a central form of government.

I see no problem with any of this. I would rather the government control our future. None of us seem to give a shit about the environment, or anyone else other than ourselves (the Republican view). Socialism isnt evil, communism is evil. People that bitch about socialism are the people that dont want to be told what to do, because they like doing the shit they shouldnt and no one to say anything about it.
I dont want the government to run my everyday life, but I want some tighter laws in place. We need to be a green country, stat. Period. We're supposed to be setting the example for the rest of the world.

Why should I fucking consider ANYONE else? I work just as hard as you if not harder. Try 60 Hour weeks and 70 sometimes. 38 straight days of work at times. You should support your president no matter how much you disagree with him, chances are most of you voted for him anyway. Considering that he was pretty much handed a huge recession to deal with, I think it is best to be optimistic whether or not you like him or not. I did not agree with bush, but I still hoped for the best of what he brought forth. Even so the "socialism" he is bringing is only what was necessary for two of the largest industries that failed, and needed to be brought up to their feet. Imagine what would have happened if the gov didnt step in when the banks failed.
