Too much power with in the IRS and too easy to punish political rivals along with the masses and keep all us commoners in line with. You do remember during prohibition the G-men were the from the dept of the treasury right. Why do you think the IRS is going to be the modern equivalent when you dont conform and buy you govt approved health insurance.
Yup sources of income for the Govt will never go away, up until 2006 IIRC we were still paying what was supposed to be a TEMPORARY tax passes in something like 1903 to pay for the Spanish American war.Originally posted by z31maniacThey'll just add it to the current bevy of taxes.
as said earlier, I would fully support a VAT if it meant the IRS would go awayLast edited by mrsleeve; 04-07-2010, 03:50 PM.The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

Unfortunately, the VAT will be an added tax on top of what we pay already.
I'm paying about 40% of my income of you include payroll deductions, tax at the gas pumps, 9% state sales tax, property tax, internet and cell phone taxes, etc...
The VAT will put me at about 45-50% of my income being taxed and I make under 100k per year.
This on the heels of the report today that 47% of US households do not pay fed taxes.

"Though he acknowledged that both were still unpopular ideas, he said getting entitlement costs and the U.S. budget deficit under control may require such moves"
Hmmm, why not remove entitlement costs and cut the budget to get it under control? Oh wait, it's just easier to steal more money from the people rather than actually show some leadership, responsibility, and self control.
VAT is nasty and complicated. Just to enact it would cost businesses billions of dollars. The IRS would have to triple just to keep track of it all and make sure businesses are properly applying the tax. Plus, VAT can be manipulated very easily by DC to control what they want controlled. It is the same as income tax in that regard.
Of course, we could go with his backup plan and do the carbon credit tax or some other energy tax.
They simply don't get it. They don't understand economics, and they really don't care. As long as they can justify taking more, they'll do it because its for the "greater good". They just can't stand it when exceptional people actually end up being exceptional. Best to keep them beat down... errr... I mean paying their fair share.1987 E30 325is

We can't keep printing money, borrowing money and raising taxes.
The dollar is losing its value as the Canadian dollar is now equal to the US Dollar.
Our debt is staggering and out of control, while Obama is spending like a drunken sailor on shore leave.
Raising taxes and printing more money isn't the answer - cutting the size of government and forcing them to live within their means is, or is at least a start.
The bigger the Government, the smaller the Citizen.
Never has that been more true than today.
How long can we expect 53% of the public to support the other 47%?sigpic

No one seems to want entitlements, but I'd love to see how far a candidate got who had the balls to call for the end of Medicare, Social Security, Federal disability payments, school lunches, food stamps and the like....
I mean, according to the US Census Bureau, over half the Federal budget goes to entitlement programs.
You want a riot? Tell old people there won't be anymore government money available to pay their health care, disability and housing costs because doing so is Socialism.Comment
