Obama tells Senator Kyl why he won't secure the border

    Cocksucker!

Obama tells Kyl in private Oval Office meeting: I won’t secure border b/c then Republicans will have no reason to support “comprehensive immigration reform.”

promoted from the diaries because duplicity should be publicized

On June 18, 2010, Arizona Republican Senator Jon Kyl told the audience at a North Tempe Tea Party town hall meeting that during a private, one-on-one meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office, the President told him, regarding securing the southern border with Mexico, “The problem is, . . . if we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’” [Audible gasps were heard throughout the audience.] Sen. Kyl continued, “In other words, they’re holding it hostage. They don’t want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’”

Sen. Kyl also said he reminded President Obama that the President and the Congress has an obligation, a duty, to secure the border.

(This part of Sen. Kyl’s remarks begins at the 3:17 mark of the video below.)

Pretty messed up if it's true. Good ole politics...

Has Obama responded to the allegation? As one could imagine, skepticism arises due to the audience and state the senator represents, as well as the conditions under which he was told this. Although NO politician is innocent of it, this smells of pandering.

You know it's true. No matter how perfect the immigration reform could be, the R's will blast it down, and THEN read it for some ammo to try and spin it against him.

Congress have been complete assholes to eachother this whole term, with R's voting against bills that are >75% their own just to make a point. If they don't have a damn good reason to play ball then they won't.

Thing is his COS openly stated "let no good disaster go to waste." Its probably not that far out to expect him to consider something like this a package deal and only a package deal.

Is there any corroborating evidence? Transcripts? Etc?

Kyl says 'Obama told me x' in a closed door meeting. Then you read about this supposed statement on a very opinionated website.

How do we know it's true? I can claim anything I want too, doesn't make it true.

Kyl has no reason to lie, and he is known for absolute integrity, if not his public speaking abilities. His word is at the very least as good as Obama's.
Obama is making himself look stupid all by himself on numerous issues, no need for Kyl to pile on.

I'm sorry, I missed where me being a Christian made me perfect? If anything it just goes to show you I fully admit I'm no better than anyone else and need God. Recognizing Christ's (God's) sacrifice to pay the price for my sins.

Funny thing about it is though, you're the first to cast a stone about something that wasn't said about you nor even slightly related to you.

Now who's the judgemental little strap on?
