Religion is not a party or a team or a family. Its merely a guideline. It is up to the individual to decide how much of it they want to follow.
For example, of my Christian friends, maybe 5% actually go to church on Sundays, yet none of them have ever spoken out and personally apologized for the pedophilia thats occurred, and I wouldn't expect them for one second to do so.
On the same token, you'll never hear me speak out on behalf of my religion because of some uneducated, poor, crazies, that were wrongfully convinced by a quack that it is their duty to kill innocent people.

Food for thought, I have been put down far less in the US when i make aware that i'm muslim, compared with the dozens of times i was scoffed at by foreigners when i told them I was from America, and the majority were Christians.
