Amen.Sales, as in the profession.
Knowing properly how to assist people in buying things. Knowing your product and your presentation well enough to help people make an informed decision.
Having the tenacity and determination to find and assist those customers, then developing a relationship with them so they will be able to use your services in the future.
Having the ability, time and patience to continue to answer the same questions over and over, the consistency to always return a communication promptly and accurately...the whole "professional" thing, y'know?
What you sell is really of no significance. When you are a true saleman, you are selling yourself, but all of the qualities I have listed are what people need, whether it is a one-on-one deal or an entire corporation buying from you.
The top 10% of all income the world over is made by salesmen. Think of this: every deal somewhere has a salesperson involved. Sales really do make the world go 'round.
Find a book called "The Greatest Salesman of all Time" or something like that. Read it, and then lets talk.
Luke
I don't agree at all with 1, 2 (latter half), 3 or 6. Especially 6. Customers can smell BS a mile away. They may still buy your product, but I can guarantee you'll never see them again. Nor will they refer their friends. If you can't sell something without lying about it, sell something else. Note that marketing is not the same thing as selling (Billy Mays and the cheeseburger examples.) If you don't know the answer to the question, simply say "that's a great question. Let me find out the answer and get right back to you." Don't lie, ferchrissakes.Talking to stangers aka potential buyers is a very usefull tool. Not everyone can do it (right), some people are just shy or have problems with it, but when you master it, I guarantee you can sell toothpicks at 5$ a piece.
A few tips I've learned over the years:
1] always talk so as to show you are dedicated to the product and that you would personally buy it. Phrases like "I have three myself", "I've been using it for a year myself" etc. (doesn't have to be true)
2) never say "I don't know" or "I'm not sure". Watch and learn the way politicians talk. They never say that they don't know something, because there's many ways to get around any question. Even in this case an insignificant lie can be attached. Hesitate too much and you lose the sale.
3] do not get too friendly. No pep talk, no pats on the back, no sexist phrases etc. You're not going out for a beer, this is business talk even if it is a toothpick. This is very unconfortable for many customers. On the other hand, show you're interested in helping.
4] Talk to all customers the same way. All prejudice has to go aside. Terrible clothing, handicapped, stuttering, huge boobs, etc. If a customer senses you aren't taking him/her seriously or you smile a tiny bit, you've lost the sale.
5] probably most important - study the product. It will be hard if its a store with lots of things, but if you can logically explain why the more expensive Samsung is better than the LG, big plus. Get ready for people that are from the field, there can be people that know more about the product than you and if that happens, keep your cool and work with the imformation he/she is telling you.
6] I wrote you can lie, but not the stupid way-off type of lie. Try to say it in a way that can be demented in the future if needed. Use only in critical situations.
7] If you screw anything up, apologize right away. When people see that you've acknowledged your fault and apologized, they'll back down. If you don't, the customer may try to ruin your life.
You're an idiot. There's not a single shred of fact in that statement.
Amen once again.

Thanks, Tim.
Idiot is starting to get on my nerves.
Proper sales means you don't EVER have to lie, something poor little piss-ants like Joshh will never understand...because the world is out to get him, y'know?Comment

That's entirely up to me if he's going to publicly insult me. Don't worry, I know you don't care if he breaks forum rules, he's been here longer. Or is it because you disagree with my point of view on this issue?Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Oh, I didn't see in the forum rules that said when it was okay to insult. Can you point that out to me Danny?
No need for threats, I don't change my point of view because a moderator decides to pick a side.
I didn't have a justification, or you don't know what the justification is?Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

in the NWO personal attacks will no longer be tollerated.
this is an overall statement. reguardless of the member's status.
civil debate is welcome, but BS like this will be dealt with in the form of thread locking and deletions. if it is an on going issue after warnings are giving, it will be time out and if it persists banning.
it is possable to have a civil debate without peraonal attack even with opposing points of view.
if you can't keep it civil in the public forum, then take it to PM's. if you threaten a member via PM, it will result in a TIME OUT without appeal and review for banning.
if you can't control yourselves, it will result in the elimination of the political sub forum all together.
i like seeing people aware of what is going on around them and have the Ability to discuss it, lets keep it that way before this sub forum is deleted.seien Sie größer, als Sie erscheinen
