The state of the economy can be largely attributed to 2 separate trillion dollar wars, a HUGE prescription drug bill and while I do fundamentally agree with the tax cuts, they weren't exactly the best thing to do under the circumstances. Cutting taxes should go hand in hand with a decrease in spending, not an increase. And to pay for all this shit, the fed just prints money which lowers the value of every dollar. Actually the housing collapse was set into motion in 1998 when Congress required FannieMac (joking) to issue lower rates and loans to people with subpar (or subprime) credit ratings in an attempt to open up the housing market to minorities and the lower classes. FannieMac is the guarantee for loans issued by private banks to motivate them to lend, its been used before for social engineering by congress but never as aggressively as those modifications of the CRA.

It basically created a system where the federal government would guarantee risky loans by buying them from banks. What did you expect lenders to do? They wanted to make loans and they knew that these previously risky loans carried no risk. Its like telling a marine he is in a free fire zone. The banks got too aggressive and had soo many loans coming in that they couldn't sell them all to the govt so they sold them to investors instead and the idiot investors were just as moronic as the idiot homeowners, assuming housing prices would rocket up forever.

The hilarious (sad) thing is Barney Frank had a hand in setting this whole thing into motion and now he is the main fag blaming the previous president. The president cant do shit without approval of congress and he cant secure any funds. Only the house can appropriate so its the house to blame for this shit, not Bush. Bush may have been the poster boy for the war but executive action expires after 6 months and the wars have been going on for years, that can only happen with approval of congress.
