    Interesting article about the USDA

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/07/us...nted=1&_r=3&hp

"And Dairy Management, which has made cheese its cause, is not a private business consultant. It is a marketing creation of the United States Department of Agriculture — the same agency at the center of a federal anti-obesity drive that discourages over-consumption of some of the very foods Dairy Management is vigorously promoting.

Urged on by government warnings about saturated fat, Americans have been moving toward low-fat milk for decades, leaving a surplus of whole milk and milk fat. Yet the government, through Dairy Management, is engaged in an effort to find ways to get dairy back into Americans’ diets, primarily through cheese."

      Interesting, but not surprising.

      The agribusiness influence is strong.

It's funny as hell to see them fight against themselves (in a way) ...and all it's really doing is making America fatter. Although there are more reasons than just this that America is the fattest nation.
Back in the 40's and 50's the problem was a small fraction of what it is today.
More of Government butting in on what we "should" be eating. Oops!!

It's still a person's individual choice though, so I don't blame the Government. I know I'm a sucker for Kit Kats and Papa Murphy's double stuffed Pepperoni pizza. But, no one, not one person, is forcing me to eat it.

I absolutely agree with the exception that there is a ton of rhetoric in terms of what is "healthy" or not. If you believe what you see on TV and magazines there's no reason you can't live off of "fat free" foods (cookies and high sugar fat free foods...hahaha) and Pepsi free for a balanced diet.
But yet that's still the responsibility of the person eating to do some fact checking and common sense use.

Humans, for the most part, need fat in their diets. Problem is we sit on our asses most of the time and eat the wrong kinds of fats. And then wonder why we are fat.....

Fat cheese or yogurt remain way healthier than KFC, McDonald or a gallon-a-day of Pepsi.

Lean food products have been a excuse for lazy ass fatsoes...

Heaven forbid, but could many an American looking to eat healthier suffer from a case of over-information?

For example, Search this site. There's some REALLY bad advice given and it takes a discerning eye to sift through all of it. A simple search can result in over 5 + pages. Now Google "Healthy eating".

While I believe it's fairly simply to eat healthy(er) than average, I also don't believe it's about all what you eat and more about what you do.

Everyone's out to get a slice of profit and not have to worry about it. We suffer from a severe case of Greed. And we're blind to it in this Country. Not that the rest of the world is much different. Half the world hates us for what we have. Some hate us for how we treat what we have. Most American's hate themselves so how in the fuck would they go about fixing anything? Less focus on everyone else, more focus on just being the right Guy. Doing the right thing, despite if it puts you out or is "hard" would do everyone wonders. Then again, what do I know?

Yeah, just the sheer hypocrisy of it is boggling.

Same here, I'd rather not eat cheese than eat some low-fat crap. But I know I definitely don't eat anywhere near the 33lb avg they mention in the article.

So that means there are people eating 50, 60, 70lbs a year of cheese. Jesus.

I love cheese as well, just saying I'd rather not eat cheese than eat low-fat versions.

Just like booze, I'd rather not drink than drink crap like Bud Light.

                            I concur.

I tried a "55 Calorie Premium Light Beer" Bud Light. It was like drinking flavored water via powder that "tastes" like beer. So bad...

I think the real question here is...

                              Oral sex or cheese?
