No. I mean Not In My Back Yard.
The EPA isn't the real problem. Refineries need to be located near easy access to transportation facilities, whether water or land based. This is also where lots of people tend to live. And no one wants a brand new refinery in their back yard.
Of course, these days, with so many unemployed, there would likely be a much more welcoming attitude since many hundreds of jobs would be created in the construction and operation of such a facility.Comment

You ever hear of pipe lines ?????? Thats how 99% of product is shipped (other than to final point of sale) You can put them ANYWHERE, I know I have put them in places where you cant walk and have to crawl to get where you need to go, the hills are so steep. Am on a job like that RIGHT NOW in the FUCKING WINTER.
Yes you are very right about the jobs issue, Refinery hands make dam good coin, and those of us that build them and related facilities dont do to shabby either.
Really its the EPA, the EPA has BLOCKED 2 new refineries in the Billings area where the POPULATION WANTS THEM TO BE BUILT in just the last 4-5 yearsOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

Or if fits the Green agenda to make energy very very expensive by limiting refined products supply.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

Yeah, that sure is 'taxing the living shit' out of gasoline. Do away with it completely and the price would drop by 17%.... while all your roads, bridges and entire infrastructure system fell apart. Seem like a good idea?
Taxing the living shit out of gas is what they do in, say, the Netherlands. $3.5 per gallon, plus 19% VAT on top of that. Makes our measly <$0.50 seem like a good deal.Comment

ugh.... The federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon. State taxes run an average of 27.2 cents per gallon, meaning a grand total of 45.6 cents per gallon.

That Gallon of gas has been taxed about 8 times by the time its flowing through the pump into your fucking tank and you get pay your 18.4 cents, state rate + sales.
When its acquired (pumped outta the ground or off a boat, or from a pipeline from canada) there is a PER barrel tax (1)
When its refined there is a tax payed when its shipped out to the distribution hubs (2) and the independent pipe line companies have to pay some tax based on volume (3).
When a independent distribution company buys it they have to pay a taxs based on the volume(4 -5) + sales tax if applicable .(6)
When a gas station buy it, there is 2 cents a gallon that goes to the feds (7) when it GOES INTO the stations tanks + state (8)and local rates(9) + sales (where applicable) ((10))
then you buy it and pay your measly "17%" On the final sale price of that fuel that has been taxed ever time it moves along the way.
Those taxes are costs, those costs have to be part of the RETAIL PRICE OF THE PRODUCT. Industry is out to make money not lose it. SO if you were too cut the level and # of time that gallon of motor fuel had been taxed the PRICE WOULD DROP SIGNIFICANTLY.
Now you dont think the countries of Europe have a similar taxation structure PRE PUMP???? Yes they have to have all those taxes TO PAY FOR ALL THE FREE STUFF THEIR GOVTS PROVIDE.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

Yes and we are taxed MUCH LESS because we have MUCH LESS free stuff. Taxes HAVE TO exist because of externalities. Please just pick something else to argue about. We have it pretty damn well when it comes to gas taxes.Comment

Not you for h0lmes
The taxes on Petro and related products were levied to pay for infrastructure, with all the money they take in on just the Oil production tax and what we pay at the pump (the ones you seem to think are the only ones) We should have the very fucking newest and best roads bridges, sewers, and shit. But DO WE......................NO that spending mostly has slowly swapped from infrastructure to SOCIAL PROGRAMS since about the mid 70's.
Once it was mostly built Rather than go back to the beginning and start to refurbish and upgrade the shit built in the 50's its mostly been let go to the point where shit if fallign apart. you know this thoughOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

Haha what complete horseshit. You and I both know that if anything that money has gone right into the military budget. Maybe next time you want to bitch about government spending, you should criticize the defense budget which is almost a trillion dollars a year when you include spending for Iraq and Afghanistan. Republicans like to conveniently gloss over the biggest social program of them all THE US MILITARY!!Comment

Defense is something the govt is supposed to do and has to do. We have had this disscussion before too. ( I had such high hopes for you too, oh well 2 steps forward 1 back I guess)
Not make sure you have food, Heath care, a job, spending money, roof over your head, ect..... on the backs of the rest of the country with their tax monies. That is/was the role of charities and local out reach programs before the govt decided it could do it better and got involved with them from the money downOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.
