    Interesting article on jobs...

Not just this current recession, but stretching back to the ".com" crash.

National Journal is a research and advisory services company based in Washington, D.C. offering services in government affairs.

That is a pretty damned good article.

"Thoma, of the University of Oregon, says he has been lately rethinking whether the situation demands more pronounced government income redistribution to help those whom globalization has hurt the most."

However this is not an answer. The last thing Government should be doing is poking their heads in where the market is concerned. I would argue that our own Government has a lot to do with this economies failure over the last 40-50 years. All the peaks and valleys. They should be focused on enforcing the law and not adding more that is just making it harder for businesses around this country.
Local governments are just as at fault. Starting a business these days is rough. Portland for example is so worried about the environment and how pretty the city is that they don't even realize that small businesses wallets are being thumb screwed out of existence. Or they just don't care.

Between property taxes, and income taxes my business was on the edge all the time. I was doing okay yet I wasn't able to hire a single employee. Mostly because insurance prices were horrendous. As soon as you hire a single employee you get the hammer.
You work inside Portland city limits and man do they ream you.
Add up what it really takes to run a small business these days and there's a good part of why this country is hurting.
Where's government when someone does something unscrupulous? But they sure are on it if they figure a new law will bring in more money.

Very interesting article indeed. I especially noticed one paragraph.

"Perhaps, some economists theorize, the United States isn’t creating innovative jobs because its workforce isn’t up to the challenge. For probably the first time in history, our young adults are no better educated than their parents. Nearly all our international rivals, in developed and developing economies alike, continue to make generational leaps in college graduation. Brainpower is still our comparative advantage with the rest of the world, but the advantage is shrinking."

Im sure that played a factor in it for sure. But more than that the lack of parenting, pride, religion, and morals plays a bigger factor.
