Honestly it wouldn't surprise me. Looking back through history at all the other clandestine stuff we've gotten involved in, this seems well within the realm of possibility. It will be interesting to see if any more light can be shed.

I thought it had been common knowledge about our dealings with Egypt for a long time. I remember reading about us putting him in 10+ years ago.

I'm very curious to see how the Israelis will react. Egypt is their biggest ally and they have close ties for many years. Given that public sentiment in any Arab country is generally anti- Israeli I suspect they are nervous about the possibility of a democratic Egypt.
