    A fix for Congress?

Got this from a friend. We've touched on some of this before. Thoughts?

    Congressional Reform Act of 2011

    1. Term Limits.
12 years only, one of the possible options below.
    A. Two Six-year Senate terms
    B. Six Two-year House terms
    C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

    2. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when
    they are out of office.

    3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security
system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security
system, and Congress participates with the American people.

    4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans
    do.

    5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay
will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

    6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the
same health care system as the American people.

    7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American
    people.

    8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective
    1/1/11.

The American people did not make the current contract with members of
Congress. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers
envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then
go home and back to work.

Ban former elected representatives from working as lobbyists.

These 2 points would help immensely. Agreed.

Not sure about these though. It would be a never-ending amateur hour, shit wouldn't get done. Large pieces of legislation often require more than a year from start to finish. And while the Senate does have it's problems, it also has it's benefits.

I agree with what the OP posted, I've seen that list floating around on websites and emails before and it all seems agreeable to me. I'd like to see some professional commentary on it thought as I'm sure there are unintended consequences I'm not aware of.

Like some of the stuff, but unless there is a fundamental change to get the money and influence out of congress no progress will ever be made.

Term limits sound good, but I'm not convinced they work in application.

Not sure if you read that link but the guy doesn't have very good arguments in general. A few of the points he might as well have said "just because". Governors have term limits. I don't see a huge problem with Governors over Congress. You get the the end and you wonder if the guy thinks there's anything wrong with Congress.

I whole heartedly agree with the lobbying and "donations" buying our politicians posts.

Should I have put some sort of disclaimer that the views expressed in posted link may or may not be pertinent to the person whom posted them, Someone asked for professional commentary, not my opinion.
