Why are you speechless? He went to that school, made a commitment, and broke a rule. He admitted to his wrong doing and the university did what they did.

Or is it the punishment you think is too harsh?

I don't see a problem with it at all.

If he didn't want to be held to that standard, he shouldn't have AGREED to attend that university and abide by their honor code.

Do I think it's a bit antiquated to have something like that? Yeah. But again, if people want to agree to those restrictions, that is their personal choice. And now he is suffering the consequences of his actions.

Good for him being an adult about it, instead of trying to whine his way out of it.

Private University Honor Code, no controversy about it. Its basically a church, its up to them to decide how to handle their affairs and they handled it. Actually, I kind of respect them for sticking to their guns knowing that its going to ruin their season and cost them millions of dollars.

It may cost them millions in ad/sports revenue but it kept there people donating to there school and athletic department. I know quite a few mormons that are very happy the school stuck to there guns and are glad that Brandon Davies was responsible enough to admit wrong doing. No SEC school like Auburn or Florida would even have the balls to pull half a standard of what BYU does.

Just harsh. I'm sure there was another way going about it.

Split, it is harsh but he did agree to those terms.

What I'd like to see is colleges around the country stop giving kids a free pass because they are good athletes. Gifts happen all the damned time. A scholarship just isn't enough anymore.

Why wouldn't he go to hell? He's not the exact same religion as I am.

I don't think anyone realizes just how repressed and insane Mormons are.

the SLC area is pretty much as you'd expect. Most of the population is indeed of the Mormon faith. They go to church and don't fuck or party, and get awkward if you bring either subject up.

But if you drive 45m minutes south you get into Utah County, where the hardcore Mormons live. If I don't shave for a few days, no one makes eye contact with me. There's a billboard for a mexican restaurant with a model on a surfboard, with a 1 piece bathing suit roller painted over her to not show pornographic images. Even BYU students who live off campus are not allowed to have members of the opposite sex in their house or apartment. BYU has a dress code that they (obviously) very strongly enforce. Mormons as a whole preach and actually believe that premarital sex is just as bad, if not worse than murder. Read that last one again. I'm not exaggerating.

If BYU gave that dude a pass, it would have had disastrous consequences. College students all over would be having consensual sex with their significant others. Returned missionaries grow side burns and desecrate their magic underpants. Girls everywhere would be going wild, flashing collarbones and thighs at random passerby. It would be chaos I tell you. It would be so bad, Jesus would have to come down and open up a can 'o wupass.

I dunno, I just read over that honor code and I have to say - it's pretty crazy.

It sucks for him but it is nice to see an organization stick to it's standards no matter who has broken the rules.

WOW bro... I like your passion and enthusiasm, but you got your facts all screwed up...

Its funny living in Provo, Utah and hearing about this basketball player controversy over and over... The guy broke the rules... And because he is in the public eye, he has to be made an example of. The school stuck to their guns which is commendable considering this guy was their goldenboy, and I respect that the dude went out with class, and didnt make a stink about it.

Having said that... If you are not a star athlete who is in the public eye, this will probably not happen to you.
