The sales will go higher than this but as the people who can afford this car buy, the sales will drop back off again. That's what I'm expecting anyways.

5,003 Volts are sold and on the road as of now.

And 8,066 Nissan Leafs. Nice job so far. The numbers will only expand from here. I expect EVs will be outselling diesel cars in the US by next year. It won't take much. Its interesting which cars the Leaf is already outselling.

The Volt caught fire while parked at a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration testing center in Wisconsin, three weeks after a side-impact crash test, said an agency official. The official, as well as the three other people familiar with the inquiry, said they couldn’t be named because the investigation isn’t public.
The fire was severe enough to burn vehicles parked near the Volt, the agency official said. Investigators determined the battery was the source of the fire, the official said.

I don't understand why people are buying the Leaf when you can get a car that functions as an electric but *can still go places*. The Leaf is so single-focused as to be worthless to anyone as anything but a toy. You'd have to go home and swap cars (to the other car that you NEED to have) just to drive to the next county. I don't get it.

Technically you could just build a small generator trailer for long distances.

Much cheaper than owning and maintaining 2 cars.

From the looks of that link, that thing isn't in production and you can't buy it. Still it makes far less sense than buying a Volt over a Leaf for anyone but the most hardcore EV nut.

Diesel would sell better if they took the taxes off of them. I really would like to get one at some point. EV no thanks not when I know there is a coal burning plant less than 10 miles away that makes my electricity.
