Toyota has targeted global sales of 60,000 units of the PHV in its first year, and may consider adding production if there’s “ample demand,” said Shiori Hashimoto, a spokeswoman for the company. That’s triple the 19,010 units delivered when the Prius first went on sale outside of Japan in 2000.
GM sold 6,142 Volts this year through November and will miss its sales target of 10,000 cars this year, said Don Johnson, the carmaker’s vice president of U.S. sales, on Dec. 1. GM expects, though, expects to raise production of the Volt to 60,000 next year with 45,000 earmarked for the U.S. and the rest for export.
The Prius is Toyota’s third-best selling car after the Corolla and Camry, and the fastest-growing Toyota car this year, as higher gasoline prices boost demand for fuel-efficient automobiles.

I love when my obama volt catches fire in my garage after getting rear ended days prior. I can't bare the thought of how harmful a raging fire consisting of batteries and plastic must be for the environment. We really need to get this green movement in FULL SWING BABY.

I love it when people buy Volts! I mean, I would not really care to own one myself though. The less gas other people buy, the more demand will drop - price will follow. And my X5 is thirsty."I think we consider too much the good luck of the early bird and not enough the bad luck of the early worm."

Nissan has a hell of a lot more credibility than GM on this subject.
Detailed actions under NGP 2016 include:
1) No.1 in Zero-Emission Vehicles: cumulative sales of 1.5 million units of zero-emission vehicles by 2016 across the Renault-Nissan Alliance. On behalf of the Alliance, Nissan will lead the development of an all-new fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) together with strategic partner, Daimler.
If this keeps up, I'm looking forward to buying cheap gas for a long long time.

Audi Chief Calls Chevy Volt “A Car For Idiots”
I’ve been calling it the Chevy Dolt for quite some time -because it seems like a genuinely stupid idea to have an electric car that will only go 40 miles (or 62 km if you’re driving the European Ampera) on a charge, but I’ve never gone so far as to say the people who buy it are stupid. As far as I’m concerned, you are free to spend your hard-earned dollars as foolishly as you want – that’s what free markets are for (GM bailout notwithstanding).
Audi’s American division president, however, doesn’t mince words when it comes to Dolt buyers (no pun intended).Bring on the war of words. In a frank conversation with MSN writer Lawrence Ulrich, Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen has said that the Chevy Volt will fail and that anybody who buys the car is an idiot. Not only that, de Nysschen has lumped proponents of any type of electric car into a category of “intellectual elite who want to show what enlightened souls they are.”

1529 Volts sold in December. Forgot to post this up. Highest month yet.
They fell short of the 10k goal for the year ending up at over 7000 units sold. Or around 7700 sold.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

The car isn't selling whether you like it or not. And it really isn't about supply as it is cost. It's just the way it is.
Stopped by the closest Chevy dealer today because I saw they had a POS (for the price) Volt there a while back. Got to talking to two sales reps. the first admitted there has been a lot of interest in the Volt but very few people who want to buy it. The Volt they had took them a month and a half to sell. That's not exactly flying out the door.
Nope not at all. But I know it's going to overall fail. Between the economy and the price it's just not going to be a big seller.
Might not have met their target, but considering the government investigation (which just closed and lithium batteries exploding is nothing novel... we had to be careful of it in electric go-carts too...), over 7000 is a decently good year. Certainly more than 1200.

If you'd do just a little bit of research, you find that even 1500 a month is not even close to a car's viability as a sales product in the auto market. Now get the fuck off my back till you have a real point.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Every car has a different development cost and a different break-even point. Some are not even expected to break even as they're used as development agents for technology that goes into other cars. Porsche lost $100k on every 959 they made, for example.sigpic

I see you're getting frustrated because your sky is falling thread didn't go over all that well as our economy is still crawling very slowly upwards. While the threat of another resession is still there (you can't even acknowledge that as a potential). That and the fact that while Volt sales are up the average buyer makes 175k a year...as expected. Not a car that's going to sell like the Cruze (more than 14000 a month).
After retooling and making a new car selling 7700 volts isn't even close to what they need to break even on the car. You don't need the exact figures (GM would never give that info out publicaly) to know this. So you just keep that chip on your shoulder.Last edited by joshh; 01-21-2012, 05:43 PM.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.
