Yes another Gas thread, but a level headed one.

Why Gas Is So Expensive Today (Hint: It’s Not Libya)

It's a long article but a great read. It really is infuriating to read this stuff.

        Speculation DUHHHH

There are many factors that play into speculation, and unrest in the oil producing regions is a big one. Not to mention devaluation of the Green back, the locking out of production areas (AL LA the GULF) along with much much more, but yes in the end most of it boils down to Speculation.

But then again most people with a reasonable grasp on how the world works know this allready

Funny thing....when I travel to places that actually do have high gas prices (hint: we don't) I don't see nearly as many fat people. Somehow, truly high prices discourage people from driving a 2 ton beast a half a mile to buy a pack a cigs and a six pack. They also don't sit idling in the fast food drive thru lanes. They walk, bike or ride little scooters around town. Of course, since most of America's sprawl was built on the assumption of "there will be cheap gas forever", many towns don't even HAVE sidewalks, since who would want to walk to a nearby store when we can arrive in style in the latest hot POS. Not to mention the big boxes have killed all the little stores on Main Street, so now you HAVE to get in a car and drive to their place outside the city limits to buy a fuckin' hammer.

We should learn something from this, but we won't.
