The lama is unelected leader of Tibet, his decisions are subject to little debate, he has so much power and control that no one dare speak out about any of his actions for fear of being punished for it. As such freedom of speech is a unheard of concept for the people.

In the mid to late 90's IIRC the Lama banned the practice of a traditional Tibetan religion, and his followers in Nazi brown shirt style raided temples and privet homes of those that followed it, and destroyed "holy objects". Followers were fired from jobs, kicked outta schools, and are still treated like shit to this day.

In the 50's the lama was in bed with Mao (you know the guy that killed about 70million of his own country men to keep himself in power), and tried to start a Communist party in Tibet in the 70's. The guy will do what ever it takes to keep him self in power no matter what and to be hell with the pacifist mantra a of Buddhism he is supposed to be be a devout follower of

"It was only when I went to China in 1954-55 that I actually studied Marxist ideology and learned the history of the Chinese revolution. Once I understood Marxism, my attitude changed completely. I was so attracted to Marxism, I even expressed my wish to become a Communist Party member." - 14th Lama to Time Magazine 10/99

There that aught to wet your whistle.

Yeah this guy seems like some one I want to be like
