    Lottery winner gets food stamps!?

Lottery winner still gets food stamps.

"For Leroy Fick to continue to use a Bridge Card, paid for by the taxpayers, after winning the lottery, is obscene," said Sen. Rick Jones, R-Grand Ledge. "What a waste of taxpayer money."

I don't understand some people. How does that guy have the nerve to do that?! I understand its a loophole in the system, but do we really need to legislate the f*ck out these programs to specifically exclude people with 7 figures in the bank? I don't think the state of Michigan envisioned that someone would have a million bucks and still want to be on food stamps.

This guy is the pond scum of humanity. He only cares about what will benefit him and is content to be a leach on the system. He is literally taking food out of the mouths of the poor and he seems to have no problem doing it and is happy to appear in the media and admit it. I hate this dude.

      yeah saw this yesterday.

Govt does not consider lottery winnings income when in a lump sum payment.

yeah disgusting, At least he thought about it and called to ask about it. But continuing anyway is just plain disgusting

It's like he's bragging about it too!

"If you're going to try to make me feel bad, you're not going to do it," Fick told WNEM-TV in Saginaw on Monday.
I foresee something bad happening to him in the near future....

I see a bigger issue, it only takes into accounts income but not assets. So if you have millions of dollars but took a year off then your income would be nil and you would qualify according to this.

yeah well I think you still have to prove NEED to get into the system, and they ask you about your assets, not just your income.

But once in the system is where you run into this kinda thing.

I dont know for sure about this though, have never need to be on welfare or food aid, so I cant be sure. Not even the entitlement happy govt would be so stupid as to not ask about your net assets when applying for this kinda shit. I could be wrong though

A 2 million prize is under a million by the time you're done with all the taxes involved. If he was unemployed to start, that is probably less than 10 years of living money if he was semi-responsible about it. If he bought a caddy and a mcmansion, he'll be broke by next year. He's just planning ahead for when he'll be sucking on the public teet in 2020.

End all of these programs and suddenly sitting on your ass collecting free money, contributing to the downfall of a nation, won't be so en vogue. Let these assholes earn a living or starve.

I totally agree. There's plenty of work that can be done by disabled persons. A friend of mine manages a bunch of office supply stores that employ the visually impaired. I think if you're blind, and can still find a job, all of these others can so something.

They just sit around a collect gvmt checks all day, while the rest of us pay for them to subsist. Sure, there are exceptions, but I think the system needs to be a lot tighter to get into than it is. Especially on the note of mandatory drug tests to obtain gvmt aide.

out here in california, the welfare money goes to drugs, gambling, instead of actual necessities. this was brought up in the state internal audit and they have yet to do jack shit about it .

Yes, it should be means-tested for assets and income.

                            Same with social security.
