SWAT for student loans really ???

WTF is going on in this country, for all you guys with college loans, and thanks to the health care bill those that will have ANY loans for college, will this be a possible fate????

A father was dragged from his home and handcuffed in front of his children by a SWAT team looking for his estranged wife – to collect her unpaid student loans.

A stunned Kenneth Wright had his front door kicked in by the raiding party at 6 am yesterday before being dragged onto his front porch, handcuffed and led to a police car with his three children.

He says he was then detained for six hours while officers looked for his wife – who no longer lives at the house.

Mr Wright was later told by Stockton police that the order to send in the SWAT team came from The U.S. Department of Education who were looking for his estranged wife to collect defaulted loan payments.

I was ranting about the SWAT being used to serve the majority of warants these days. Maybe we should get rid of regular officers and detectives and use the SWAT teams for everyday police services. Obviously, they can't do the job and need special tactics to perform their own standard protocols. I can see now, can you imagine being pulled over for 44 in a 35 by the breadvan, swarmed by 8 bodyarmored individuals have the drivers window smashed out with a penetration device, seatbelt cut with tactical multitool, and thrown into a pile of shattered glass, six sets of knees on the spinal region, and ziptied before even finding out what the crime commuted was.

Feds defend raid on a home
              By: Jennifer Epstein
              June 8, 2011 02:40 PM EDT

The Education Department is confirming that its inspector general authorized a raid on a California home on Tuesday, but says the officers were conducting a criminal probe — not pursuing a woman because she could not pay her student loans, as has been reported.

The story of the Stockton raid went viral early Wednesday after a local ABC station reported that the inspector general and local law enforcement authorities had executed a warrant because she had defaulted on federal student loans.

Justin Hamilton, the Education Department’s press secretary, said that story is wrong.

“While it was reported in local media that the search was related to a defaulted student loan, that is incorrect. This is related to a criminal investigation,” he said. “The Inspector General’s Office does not execute search warrants for late loan payments.”

The TV station has since taken down the original story on its website and posted an updated one.

Hamilton declined to comment on the specifics of the case because it is “an ongoing criminal investigation.” He did, though, say that the independent inspector general’s office executes 30 to 35 search warrants each year on issues including bribery, fraud and embezzlement of federal financial aid money.

The woman who police were looking for, meanwhile, wasn’t in the home at the time. Her estranged husband lives there.

Correction: Contrary to earlier reports, a SWAT team did not conduct this raid.

Nice. That should just be your response every time I post something.
A year ago my 35 year old cousin was killed in a boating accident because she let her 7 year old son drive the boat straight into a pier. The city was deciding whether or not to press charges on the other adults in the boat. Most of the feedback from the public and media was that the adults were irresponsible and should go to jail.

What the media failed to report was that my cousin was a 45 year old veteran, not 35, and the most overprotective mother in the world. The boy was not driving the boat but was sitting next to the person in charge of driving the boat, so from passerbys, it could have looked like he was driving. No one was really in control of the boat or paying attention and caused a most unfortunate accident. But for some reason, the media didn't seem to get their facts right and the story went national that a 7 year old killed his mom in a boating accident.

I've been interviewed and quoted on four occasions in the news and paper and have yet to see the media get the content right. I have friends in the military and local public office that have expressed similar experiences. My point is, just because it's in the news, doesn't mean it really happened that way.

why didn't you publish your own article to the internet with the correct facts or get a lawyer to make sure your quotes are properly stated and libel has not been committed.

If you really cared as much as you say that is

but in the end, news outlets are a BUSINESS and the whole point is to make a bigger story to make more money. Anyone who thinks otherwise is naive

But they still got it right about all the irresponsible people on board being the cause of the crash.

When I was in a motorcycle wreck back in '05, four of us went down and one friend died. The article said he wasn't wearing helmet. He was wearing full leathers, SIDI boots and AGV Rossi Rep helmet, the same one I still have. So they missed the helmet, but got the gist right that we were all being asshats and that was the cause.
