A nice feelgood story about BMW NA.

Car maker BMW (Ontario, CA) plans to fire 100 skilled workers, and reopen same plant next day with inexperienced, cheaper staff (this after $4 billion gov. aid), and posting biggest profits ever.

    Charming.

Nothing fair and balanced in that story. Would like to hear the other side on this one. I smell bullshit

How skilled do you need to be to pull parts? Unions are ruining this country. Can't afford to have someone racketeering off the top of workers wages and expect it to last forever.

            On one hand
Unions are important an' all, but yours seem to be out of control and/or utterly inflexible.

            On the other hand
If you're making record profits, why not pay your workers well?

As for the source, well it's either true or not. It's not like BMW were going to announce it.
Get a grip, it's a news article, not an opinion piece ect, ect and so on and so forth.

hell the only reason they're probably laying off those skilled workers are because they are probably not needed for that specific manufacturing process but the fact that they are tied to union bureaucracy makes it difficult for these "skilled" worksmen to accept anything lower than their current standard. sooo with their hands tied behind their backs, I assume BMW did the next best thing, replace them legally with a lower skilled workforce. Thats what I presume, its not like they closed the plant down and shipped production overseas for even cheaper labor, obviously they've could've done that but yet they choose to rehire just a lower skilled labor force for their existing factory.

^It's not a factory, parts are not being manufactured, it's a glorified UPS hub. The biggest skill is driving a forklift.

                      Not being Union=not being skilled....apparently.

When did bmw get bail out money, I never read anything about that. I know they were hurting for a bit but not bad enough to get "bailout" money.
