It's a fine line, because naturally you want to give money to what you believe in.
Of course, there is a lot of bartering that goes on I'm sure. I'm sure many horrible things none of us know about. I'll plead ignorance is bliss on this one.Leave a comment:

Yeah, there should be some judgement in the decision, I will agree with you on that one. But assuming the person is deserving, then the person whom has built a relationship will get the job/scholarship/etc. And many people who do get lucky with connections are also deserving of what they get. There are flaws to everything, but the human relationship element isn't going away. It's a strange game...
The relationship side I have less of a problem with. Most of the time that has more to do with trust. But when money enters the relationship my hate flows.Leave a comment:

No wonder we find ourselves in the position this country is in.
What do we have if we don't have standards? Only allowing a certain few because of their status or cash flow is flat out wrong to me.
Take college athletes for instance. These guys are pampered through college. Everything is paid for and more. Why? Because of their physical abilities. Their grades mean absolutely nothing to a college. What do we get from this? We get NFL athletes calling the way the NFL treats them as fucking slavery for Christ's sake. Or guys who get out of college and can't even read. Or they turn to drugs etc. All for the sake of money. Most of these athletes hardly know what it's like to have a 9 to 5 job.
It fails the child to not hold them responsible for their own failures. Let them see life where everyone is on equal ground when it comes to the basics of life. That's how I see it. I see it as a standard and fairness.Leave a comment:

But put yourself into the management at Harvard's shoes when your buddy who has a kid you've known for much of his life and donates a ton of money to your program applies to your school.
College is a business, and business relies on relationships. I'm not sure how I feel about it, but it's reality.

remember when George costanza tried to prove to his black boss that he had a black friend by having the exterminator come to lunch with him? that was funny.Leave a comment:

Or a person's place in this world should have zero effect on whether their child makes it to the local CC or Harvard. Everyone should be held to the same standard. Even if that kid was born a dumbass. Tough shit.
I'll leave it there for those who can't confront some of the real down to earth problems we're creating in this country.

lol good 'ol josh bringing an average discussion up 10 levels
I'm fine with a white only scholarship, and while the creators may be trying to make a point I think a hypocritical thing to do.
I suppose minority based scholarships will never go away so may as well add white scholarships too.

Like I said I didn't know of them, I never said they don't exist. I am currently in college and between talking with financial aid counselors and doing research on my own, I have not come across any.
I just don't understand why there needs to be any race based scholarships. Why isn't based on need or grades or something else?
Because that doesn't give reparations. What you're asking for is giving scholarships based on one person being born smart (for instance) and that alone is just unfair according to some. Specially if that person is white.
So what we have is the dumbing down of America to make everyone "even". Welcome to the Progressive agenda.Last edited by joshh; 07-06-2011, 09:32 PM.Leave a comment:

Its obviously nothing racist so i would agree 100% and im hispanic.
We have our own scholarships for just being Latino so why would it be wrong to have one for just being white?Leave a comment:
