Just heard this on NPR. I'd love to see what the Libertarian perspective is on this.
Penalizing people for not vaccinating?

When unvaccinated people cause outbreaks that impact everyone, it's a real problem. Frankly, if insurance companies are *not* penalizing this behavior, I'm kind of surprised. They should be hiking the shit out of their rates for decliners.2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD LBZ/Allison

I would say that both public and insurance exclusionary tactics should be fair game. If you want to claim religious reasons for not vaccinating then send your little tyke to a private school. No shots, no public school (many colleges are on this bandwagon with respect to housing already).
Then insurance companies should also have access to this information. Everyone is on the "demonize insurance companies" kick but they should be able to base your availability to and cost of policies off of your practices. You smoke, its expensive; you dont get vaccinations, its expensive.Im now E30less.

I disagree. Not just on the freedom aspect of it, but on the assumption that an unvaccinated person is automatically that much worse off. Sure if it's the fucking plague or it's an emergency situation where we have an actual outbreak to deal with then yeah lets do this. I understand there's a few that are so dangerous that you might as well be dead by the time you decide to go to the ER over it. But 90% of those shots are for things like the flu, and I genuinely feel that my immune system is stronger for having to deal with it the natural way instead of getting shots all the time. This was actually a pretty large debate a few years ago.sigpic

I feel ultimately its the parents choice. I'm not sure if you read the article but how would you feel if some hippie parents decided not to get their kid vaccinated and your kid got the measles from their kid before it was time for your kid to get the vaccine? Don't you feel they are somewhat responsible for spreading a disease/virus that didn't have to be spread if everyone was vaccinated?sigpicComment
