I see this as this is the problem. Your sister turned and expected the Government to help before turning and expecting her family to.
In my family, if this would have happened, we would have pulled out of school or did what ever and helped our own before they turned to someone else much less the government for help.
I'm glad you were raised with enough family values to be able to tell everyone else what what is best...
Fuck yeah, exactly.
I'm not trying to blame Government for everything here but family has a reason to treat each other poorly these days. Why try to get along with family when Government is there for you...Leave a comment:

I know I had hope that the freshman would not blink and cave. I had hop there were enough with the stones and moral fortitude still to break the cycle, and force the govt into fixing it self. It was a small hope but I still had some.
LOL no more so than the guy we have now......................or do you mean Al La JFK tinfoil hattery for going against the "shadow govt" and threatening to out and disband the FED.Last edited by mrsleeve; 08-02-2011, 04:00 PM.Leave a comment:

My older sister raised two kids by herself, worked 2 jobs and had to rely on food stamps to help feed her kids. She was extremely frugal, no TV, lived in a crummy 1 bedroom apartment and had a piece of shit car on bald tires, etc. and only asked us for help when she went more than a day without any food. I was going through college at the time so it's not like I could've taken her in.
It was the government that helped her in dire times

I will forever stay optimistic even though I can already imagine Ron Paul being assassinated if elected.
wrong. It's just that medicaid/social security is more than twice the fiscal problem than the known military budget.I'm surprised none of you has talked about budget cuts on the military.
Would you be willing to carry that attitude towards Military, Medicaid/Medicare?Leave a comment:

^ Lol, Just think if the unemployment rate went back down to say 5%, The amount money that would be generated from income tax. I'm surprised none of you has talked about budget cuts on the military.Leave a comment:

I'm not saying to tax people to death, but based on the results we've seen there should be no harm in restoring taxes to what they used to be if they are so concerned with balancing the budget and still maintaining a few wars.
All this rhetoric about "job killing taxes" is pretty weak when they are at the lowest and companies are shifting jobs overseas faster than ever, or just outright sitting on huge piles of cash. It's at least as ridiculous as the attitude you guys have that everyone on "entitlement programs" are freeloaders. Screw that. I want social security to be there when I get old.
See thats what we're so mindlessly arguing about on this forum. At least in my opinion, we don't need those wars, we don't need such much involvement from the government. Balancing the budget with higher taxes just helps perpetuate the problem by making it okay to spend more money. Wouldn't you want to imagine a reality where we had low taxes and all those essential services?
What is trying to be said is not that everyone using these programs are freeloaders but to stop the government from generously spreading 'our' wealth to freeloaders!
And dude, about the rhetoric thing... keep on topic with this thread.Leave a comment:

Bingo, I feel this is our biggest problem in our country. This goes for the government as well us as citizens. We've made it too easy to give up. When someone gets fired nowadays it's too easy to get government help IMO and it's REAL easy to keep it going for a LONG time. People need to start making real sacrifices, being more proactive and stop being so god damn lazy. This goes for our government as well. This is a fucking joke. We are AMERICA, we need to get our shit together.
Agreed. When people work to get fired....there's a serious problem. Then it's straight to unemployment.
Imagine if we made people work to keep their jobs. Actually hold them responsible for things that happen to them.Leave a comment:

Anyone using entitlements is part of our national debt problem. Yes....
"People are looking for work." Yep and while they are getting "free" support they can show up to interviews with flip flops and a tank top...so difficult to NOT get hired. 2.5 years SWEET!
Maybe I already said this but I have a friend that has been collecting for over 2 years. And the Government is now paying for his schooling (back to college). Guess what...he autocrosses and even bought 10" wide wheels and tires for his autocross car. He pays for registration with tax payer money. He buys gas to get there with tax payer money. He's not the only one.
The system is broken.Leave a comment:

You were doing so good until that last part. The point of the government isn't to tax it's people to death. It's function is to ensure that a society can exist without imploding. Raising taxes only helps us limp a little bit longer when the real problem are our loopholes, spending and how we should perceive government role's in our lives.
I don't agree to fully just cutting aid, because of modern day social patterns, but to make it were it's used only in dire situations that wouldn't perpetually stay dire. yaddamean?
This I agree with. I could be collecting disability right now. But i don't because between my part time and my wife's full time job we get by.
Government programs are like a light switch. It's either on or off. There is no "how much more do you need to cover your bills"?
Talk to people on these programs. You'll find they have this idea of "why can't my kids eat ice cream from entitlement money (welfare/food stamps). Isn't that just part of good parenting". FACEPALM...so is teaching your kid that they need to support themselves as best they can without relying on entitlements ...and that YOU'RE LIVING ON OTHER PEOPLE'S HARD WORKED INCOME. Suck it up till you can support yourself. Yeah that means no fucking ice cream, no movies, no steak, no soda....etc.Leave a comment:

More debt = more money. This whole thing is just a game of hardball, neither side is interested in reducing the debt in the least.
And you guys blaming it on social programs have shit backwards. We're in a consumer based economy. You know what happens when the consumers don't have money? This shit that we're in right now. Cutting all the aid sounds like a GREAT IDEA TO GET THINGS GOING!
I think they just like to poke and prod at the social programs to distract people from the fact that the "trickle down" strategy of all these low taxes for the 10 years has been a complete failure. They take the money and run.

edit:
there are way more people than there are jobs right now. People here that I know are getting desperate, so what should they do? Just accept the job that will pay lower than minimum wage when that minimum already barely provides?Minimum wage is a horrible thing, it should be abolished so that the market can regulate cost of wages.
Minimum wage is racist anyway.Last edited by Dozyproductions; 08-02-2011, 02:51 PM.Leave a comment:
