i remember in highschool we had an econ/finance class that one was supposed to take when you are a sophmore. Shortly after I arrive, the parents decided to bitch to the school district that it was an unfair class and got it replaced with a government studies class. Now its only offered for AP students... oh my how we fudged up the system

I was not ever in an AP class but we also had Government Studies as well.

I guess if you taught how to budget by counting in grams, the non AP kids would grasp it a bit better! ;)

I think rather than receiving money for food, there should be a place where the people that need the assistance go to get their weekly allotment of food. Only basic healthy foods given. I bet that not having junk food, soda, fast food would make a lot of people not want the service.

This argument sucks. The poor and young are the lowest turnout voting blocks.

However, I did notice that you aren't complaining about soc security payments and medicare benefits which easily constitute much more federal spending and you can actually make an argument about those programs being little more than bribing voters with public money. Social security isn't even means-tested so you have lots of people collecting it when they don't need it.

Fresh vegetables, fruits and lean meats distributed to the population would be immensely better for the entire country. It's fucking bizarro world in America that our poor simply do not know how to cook for themselves (in general). One of the biggest problems is it's cheaper to buy shitty processed food than it is to eat healthy. Look at the price of a frozen meal vs buying all the ingredients to make the same meal yourself, the difference is huge. People don't want to pay $3 for juice or milk, they want to pay 99 cents for a 2L bottle of coke. Why pay for expensive vegetables in winter when a bag of frozen fries is 1/4 of the cost?

We shop all organic, and it doesn't cost that much more.

Spend more on ingredients, make dinner and you eat for 2 days. You can eat less REAL food and still get the nutrition. The crap they sell at wal-mart may be cheaper, but you gotta eat more of it.

Water is free too :), well, unless you live in the city.
