ethrtyis is my hero. Obama very clearly is a socialist. The US government has been verging on socialism for a VERY long time; long enough to where people believe that it has always been like this. Why would most Americans question it anyway? All they want to to be able to buy the next iPhone or whatever the current fad is with no thought to consequence of spending themselves dry. Bush neacted socialist policies, he enacted fascist policies. Obama has done the same, but taken things much, MUCH farther. Obamacare is the biggest travesty to have befallen our country in its history. How can anyone say he is not a socialist when he is the driving force behind the governemnt control of healthcare and formerly the auto industry? these are the same peopel that run the Post Offic and Amtrak..and they are doing such an excellent job of it. I'm not saying socialism is a bad thing, but it is not the way America is supposed to be. I fear that too many young people are being conditioned to believe that the state is the answer to theri ever need..Mussolini said something along the lines of " Everything within the State, nothing outside the State". Sounds kinda framiliar...Mussolini was extremely socialist, as was Hitler. Am I calling Obama Hitler? No, his ( Hitler's) brand of socialism was very different . However, a look at the history of Nazi Germany will show some very startling similarites to the US in recent decades ( though Nazi Germany had these things happen within the course of a decade). Socialism will come to the US through the voting public, long conditioned to beleive that socialism is actually capitalism 2.0. People need to do more looking to the past and learn from it rather than spend all their time dreaming of their futures filled with the luxuries they think they deserve.

This post demonstrate a sore misunderstanding of socialism, you people seem to equate it to any sort of government involvement in the economy. That's just not true. His healthcare plan is a huge boon to private health insurance companies. A socialist would have replaced the entire insurance and health care industry with one run by the government. He didn't. He signed a bill that benefited the private insurance companies. The government does not control healthcare and it does not control the means for which it is funded. That is not socialism.
Same goes for the auto industry. Rather than nationalizing them (what a socialist would do) he bailed them out in order to allow the private companies to remain in tact.
ethrtyiS, your post has the distinct markings of the paranoid ramblings of a syphilitic mind. You're just a batshit crazy conspiracy theorist who has spent far too much time listening to Glenn Beck, and for that reason there is not point in me continuing this discussion with you. Have fun in your world.

Wow, talk about a cop out post. He writes out a giant post with plenty of points that could be discussed and you take the waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles way out with the classic "you must listen to Glenn Beck" bullshit. I disagree with a fair amount of it but you sir, are a giant vagina for coming back with that.

It's a giant wall of speculative bullshit, why should I waste my time with that? I thoroughly enjoy discussing disagreements on policy and political theory, but that was the rant of a conspiracy theorist. He doesn't even appear to know what socialism is, for fucks sake.
Actually having these companies paying these taxes is what's holding the US economic recovery back.
Allowing companies to keep more of their profits allows them to not only invest more in the company but it gives the stock holders more money to invest into the stock market...which stimulates the fucking economy is some ways.
Taxing companies the way we do is the way to keep this country on the slow train to recovery.

I'd agree to an extent but you did set a challenge that the points could not be made and then bowed out when the challenge was answered (ridiculous amount of speculation and theorizing for the record, though)
I have to ask after reading a lot of what is being said in the P&R forum as a whole right now, how many of you are actually business owners? I mean real business owners as in having employees, locations, assets and rely on it as your source of income.

this makes me laugh. i am in no way a conspiracy theorist and i do not listen to glenn beck, or any of the other conservative shows. i do however, read and research the facts so that i may educate the ignorant who dwell and take advantage of this country. especially the ones who live here and hate their country. there is just too much brainwashing and conditioning going on in today's society. it's almost sickening.

Fine, replace "socialism" with "government intervention."
It's obvious you prefer to play paddycakes with pedantic nuances then discuss anything.

I asked him to give me specific policies enacted by Obama that would characterize him as a socialist, what he did was theorize about how Obama is conspiring to destroy America through socialist policies that he's sure to enact in his second term. That is the definition of a conspiracy theorist and someone that isn't worth arguing with. Let's ignore the fact that the Republicans control the House and will filibuster anything supported by Obama (even if they agree with it) in the Senate so he wouldn't be able to get any of that shit done regardless of whether he wanted to or not.

There's a very important distinction between a policy that is socialistic and one that is merely government intervention. For one thing, everyone here supports all sorts of government intervention, it just depends on the details of the particular policy. Two, "socialism" is an economic system while "government intervention" is an incredibly vague term that applies to a wide variety of things. Is it so unreasonable for me to demand that words retain their meaning?
hold on, from what meaning do you get a theory out of what i had wrote. i hate to utterly break it to you, but those were not merely opinions but rather, those were actual factual points which have been either said and or done by the president. i'm sorry if you are either too ignorant to notice or either too ashamed to believe it. fact of the matter is, he has done and/or doing those things. so please keep your "oh he is just a conspiracy theorist" bullshit to yourself. thanks.
