Romney releases his 2011 tax returns

    • In 2011, the Romneys paid $1,935,708 in taxes on $13,696,951 in mostly investment income.

    • The Romneys’ effective tax rate for 2011 was 14.1%.

    • The Romneys donated $4,020,772 to charity in 2011, amounting to nearly 30% of their income.

    • The Romneys claimed a deduction for $2.25 million of those charitable contributions.

I think Romney has paid his fair share to the system. Even donating almost 30 percent of his earnings and only claimed 2.5 million of the $4. million as a deduction.

    More than fair!

as apposed to Biden only donating $369 one year...

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle gave $10,772 of the $1.2 million they earned from 2000 through 2004 to charities, or less than 1 percent, according to tax returns for those years released today by his campaign.

The Obamas increased the amount they gave to charity when their income rose in 2005 and 2006 after the Illinois senator published a bestselling book. The $137,622 they gave over those two years amounted to more than 5 percent of their $2.6 million income.

Would be curious to see how much of that went to furthering the agendas of his cult.

at least he is spreading his wealth around unlike the ones that are preaching it!

Mitt Romney's presidential campaign is releasing a brief summary of 20 years of tax returns on Friday, and his accountant says it will show he gave 13.45 percent of his adjusted gross income to charities.

That's nearly twice the rate of President Obama, who according to his tax returns from 2000 through 2011 donated just less than 7 percent of his adjusted gross income to charities.

Mr. Romney's campaign did not release his returns, but instead had his trustee, Brad Malt, write a blog post giving some details of returns from 1990 through 2009.

Wait, someone who makes $10M+ donates more money than someone who makes $250K? Really I'm shocked

Also, 14.1% is "fair share"? There be some crack smokin' going on in here...

Mitt Romney's trustee said in a campaign press release that Romney artificially inflated his own effective tax rate so it would remain above 13 percent by deferring $1.75 million in charitable deductions. Romney had previously said that none of his last decade of tax returns dipped below that 13 percent threshold.
In an interview with ABC News in July, however, Romney dismissed the idea that he would ever pay more taxes than legally owed, saying if he did so he wouldn't be "qualified" to be president.
"I don't pay more than are legally due and frankly if I had paid more than are legally due I don't think I'd be qualified to become president," Romney said. "I'd think people would want me to follow the law and pay only what the tax code requires."

It could be the same percentage of income, not the total amount. Especially since the O has been the one all about spreading the wealth around. And the O made much more than $250k

Question is, was it legal to do? Yes! Just like some here admitted to using the tax code to get more back than they paid into.

Dont like it, change the laws

ok in text you got me there....

I was reading http://money.cnn.com/2012/04/13/news...turn/index.htm when I wrote that. (trying to write back and work at the same time does not alway work well.)

The family income topped $5.5 million in 2009. And no way did he give back 30 percent of his income during 2009.

                  here ya go...

Aside from the Nobel award, the White House said the Obamas donated $329,100 to charity. .... comes out to about 16 percent. About half of what Mitt gave out. For a president to preach redistribution and helping others I would expect him to be in the top 1 percent in doing so. Practice what you preach!

All I know is I make like $40k and pay nearly 30%. And Romney calls me a freeloader. Fuck him right in his pompous ass. He's welcome to give me back all of the tax I've ever paid, should approve no prob if he thinks it's $0. But in reality that check would pay off my house and be life changing.

He was calling the 47% of people who don't pay FEDERAL INCOME TAX freeloaders.

kronus, why should he give more money to gov't than he owes? Especially considering with how he donates to charity?

Hell, why doesn't Obama NOT take his presidential salary since he has plenty of other income sources?
