    More Muslim rioting

Apparently they saw a picture on the internet that they felt was offensive, so they burned 12 Buddhist temples and 50 homes.

Crowds of angry Muslims attacked Buddhist shrines in Bangladesh to protest photo of a partially burned Quran on Facebook, police said.

Seriously, WHAT THE FUCK. How can people make the leap from "I saw a naughty picture on the internet" to "I'm going to burn down the houses of 50 innocent families who in no way are connected to this picture"?? What kind of religion promotes, or at least tolerates, that kind of behavior? Why do moderate Muslims not speak out against this more loudly? I realize these violent rioters are in the minority of Muslims, and that most Muslims would never dream of doing such a thing, but there are still tens of thousands (or more?) who have engaged in deadly riots against innocent people in the past month.

It's very troubling, especially given that the reaction of some in the West has been to engage in or advocate for self-censorship. I strongly believe the absolute worst thing we could do would be to give in to these radicals and cave to their demands. Rewarding abhorrent behavior with concessions will not bring the results we desire; it will only reinforce their position.

Imagine if Jews took the old testament as seriously as Muslims do their Koran.

Seriously, take a gander through Deuteronomy, some messed up shit.

Muslims are living in the 1400's still (blanket statement, obviously it's not everyone, but the extremists are for sure). This is evidence of it. It's a brave new world to them, and they are trying to reject is as much as possible. Even Muslim Americans are having it rough. I know some who have to hide from their relatives because they are always being spied upon and reported on back to the homeland.

          It's ridiculous really.

Everyone needs to calm the fuck down.

Honestly not trying to be a troll; I just find the whole concept of reacting to a photograph/d-list movie with deadly, murderous riots completely unbelievable. When Muslims react to a movie that portrays their profit in a less than flattering manner by becoming murderous, hell-raising mobs, it strikes me as very counterproductive to their whole "we are a peaceful religion" message.

And while Islam may not be violent/extreme, the violent extremists define themselves through Islam and use Islam as justification for their actions. The two are not independent.

                  Some food for thought:

It may be satirical in nature, but it's also 100% true.

All of those rioters are dirt poor, jobless, educationless, angst-ridden young men in societies that aren't give the chance to break out of the status quo. Is it any wonder that they can be coerced into action by people with an agenda of violence?

                      RIP victims on all sides.

This is exactly what's happening. Terror in the "name" of Islam, which is a great book, by the way.

And these are growing pains- the Arab Spring is a huge leap forward- but they haven't figured it out yet. They will. How safe was France when they decided to revolt? What about us? Or China? Or the entire Holy Roman Empire when it decided it was obliged to reclaim the Holy Lands?

The problem is it's political. And it's religious. However it is not without precedent. John Calvin instituted a particularly brutal form of Protestantism in Geneva. He had people killed. But- what happened later? Modernization, democratization. As nations democratize, they naturally become more extremist- because they're seeing clearly, for the first time, just how deep the injustices run.

I know I'm crossing streams here, but as long as a segment of the population (though slim) believes Al Qaeda have a compelling argument- and that they should take up the sword against the Infidel- we will be standing by with a cruise missile or two, perhaps a team of Tier One operators and a fucking truckload of GBU-38s to gently remind them that the US and its allies only want to help them succeed as fledgling democracies. We'll bomb the shit out of them and then stick around for 10+ years to help them. Or give them the Marshall Plan.

The further along we push them, the closer they will naturally become to us-it's just not in their best interest to incite the wrath of the US, especially if you're an OPEC nation.

As the middle east awakes from its totalitarian stupor- as nations they will ask harder questions about how they're being treated- as citizens they will sometimes disagree with the status quo. As Muslims, they will choose sides- and those who choose the wrong side and act out against US interests will die.

We are, and always have been, in an era of persistent conflict. Some would argue the world has always been as such.

The question I ask myself is: is it all worth it?
