"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

I think this is perhaps one of the greatest quotes by any American President. It has been kicking around up in my head lately because of this election shit show. Countless people on both sides of the aisle expect the government and the President to "do something". But that attitude is completely wrong. People need to be doing something for themselves, and doing something for their community instead of expecting something. The world doesn't owe shit to anyone. As a free individual, it is your job to take control of your life and do something with yourself. If people just helped themselves, we would have gotten out of this financial mess right away and it wouldn't matter who was running for President because their position would pale in comparison to the people outside of government who were accomplishing things.

....and this is what you decided to do? Thanks for wasting less than a minute of my time.

I don't like him but I am tempted to vote for him just to spite the brainless liberals.

Well I don't like Obama either so when I weigh my options between voting for a shitty candidate, or voting for a shitty candidate and spiteing brainless retards in the process, I choose the latter.

Voting for a shitty candidate makes you better than brainless liberals... how? Sounds like you'll both be voting for "shitty candidates" by your own admission so I'm not sure anyone but you will be very impressed with your feat.

btw, I didn't want to watch that video so I'm just replying to the quote. IMO, Saying what 'you can do for your country' is going a bit far for most occasions unless for such events like an invasion and etc. But, and especially for a country of our size, I find myself being more concerned about whats more around me instead of the national picture. Remember our government only exists to serve as our protection and as a glue to hold all these micro communities together.

We owe it no allegiance beyond our own personal responsibilities for our loved ones and our fellow country men. That's the whole point behind the 'limited' government approach our founders had. Too bad the knicks and knacks of human nature don't always allow for a perfect execution of such ideals.

I like the title, but now "Your Country" is giant corporations, and the "government" employs you!
They love people who are smart enough to run a machine and do paperwork, but dumb enough to passively accept less and worse income and liberty.

If that quote were first spoken by Obama today, the conservatives would be calling it a call to socialism. Think about it.
