The Economist is awesome, I love it. They're an English publication which makes for a good outside perspective of what's happening in the States and their mild right-leaning perspective serves well to balance my natural liberal tendencies. I can't recommend it more highly. Makes a great Christmas gift!

The real take-away should be that The Daily Show is a source better at informing its audience than Fox News or MSNBC... Not if NPR, which produces the most informed audience, is left-leaning or not.

Sleeves, if you want a reputable source of conservative thought - http://www.ncpa.org/sub/dpd/

My friends and I enjoy it and they are a bit more respectable and legitimate versus Faux News. Nothing is perfect and may share a highly biased think tank piece, but for the most part is very good. I think the challenge is RWNJs would rather be told what they want to hear like at Fox versus the truth.

the interview with an actual BBC host is a REAL interview is it not ??? And can be substantiated with other simialr articles form other sources as well.

I was not complaining about validity, I was pointing out that there is a self admitted bias. That was counter to the guy I was talking current line of thought.

Heeter for the record I normally am WSJ guy, but have not really had time in recent months and have been largely on a self imposed news break so I have let my subscription lapse. I will prolly pick it back up at the 1st of the year even if its only the On-line edition.

I'd be hesitant in saying that The Daily Show produces a more informed audience and instead conclude that the audience they draw is more informed than the likes produced by Fox News.

Very true, but Jon Stewart also challenges people to think and consider. (Albeit chief for that may be Freakonomics, etc.) Fox News bans people whose views they don't agree with - sheltering the audience from any dissonant message.

It's a two way street where people who may have been open-minded before are swallowed up by biased news on either side, while a lemming branching out or listening to thought-provoking sources can provide personal cognitive growth. And those who are close-minded might love feeding from the trough and those open-minded and informed people might prefer hearing both sides and not having their positions to be provided for them. You're right that the audience's original state matters and influences their choice, but the source also impacts their level of being informed.

NPR News terminated the contract of longtime news analyst Juan Williams after remarks he made about Muslims on the Fox News Channel's The O'Reilly Factor.

Overly PC? Yes. Not following the party line? Please. Surely you don't think us foolish enough to equivocate that with what Fox News does.

Really? You're pretty ignorant for someone to claims to read the economist.
