Honest question. Do we, as 'citizens', have any say in what our federal government does? And don't respond with the tired, write to your congress person.

Isn't not paying them the ultimate example for the expression,'vote with your money'?

Yup your correct, for the most part. If you dont pay them see what happens there. I am currently fighting with the State of IA, because they are under the impression that since I had a mailing address there for part of 09/10 that I owe them some tax Monies, and are trying to charge me nearly 6k in back taxes, plus 10% late penalty, and an undisclosed as of yet interest rate if they find I do in fact owe them money.. The reasoning for all this. you might ask They got a LETTER form the FUCKING IRS telling them so. Not looking forward to my lawyers bill for this.

As to the article. The Patriot act is set to expire soon, and with all the negative press and so on that it has gathered I would suspect that it might not be renewed. This is no more than a continuation of that under, but trying to stay under the radar, and besides have to put that giant data center in the UT desert to use doing something right ?????

I never understood why people get all up in arms when the government wants to know more about you. If you have nothing to hide, this shouldn't be a problem.

If say, for example, there was a terrorist attack at my place of work or in my neighborhood, I would gladly help by telling the police or whomever everything I could that would help. Now scale that up a bit where the attack is an entire major city. If something I knew could help, I have no problem releasing that information to them.

The only argument I can kind of rationalize with is that if they take away one freedom or right, what is to stop them from taking them all away? But this is just paranoid bullshit. Them wanting one thing, does not infer they want everything. That's like telling someone you want ice cream and then they assume you want all the ice cream in the world.

Creepy thing to say. It takes away any need for privacy, which some of us simply like to have.

Because people have a right to privacy? This attitude is what allows them to get away with this sort of shit.

An investigation after the fact is far different than one before where there is no cause for concern of one. Treating everyone like a suspect prior to doing anything wrong should be a serious red light to warn you that something is fucked up.

Do you even keep up on the types of laws that have been passing the world over in the last decade? It's not paranoia, it's being informed on things which greatly impact your life.

because this country was founded on the principal of limited government, something canadians know little about
there is a long history of government intrusion into private life that helped give birth to this nation
