also, consider the people who were getting paid. american security firms, american catering businesses, american transportation services.. the money went right out of the federal budget and into the hands of private, tax paying individuals and businesses.

    think a little bit.

Ummmm. There were LESS people at this one than the first, by a LARGE margin.

And then that money you speak of got taxed by 30%, so they got a fair share of it back. Great method to cycle that faux money Ben B. keeps printing out.

Yeah and I am sure Katty Perry and Beyoance and all thier support staff were there for free too huh. Really I mean really do we need to be spending millions on concert entertainment for this when we are borrowing 42 cents of every one of these dollars spent. So in reality we borrowed 136m for a 2 day party on the backs of the tax payers when we owe more money to other people than our entire National Annual GDP.

Even if with donations it comes down from what was reported as 300M it's still WASTEFUL spending.

Might has well just flushed the money down the sewer into the Potomac river. We still don't have a budget and these clowns all of them are not attempting get any resolution done.

That really takes the wind out of evandael's sails. So instead of the government spending it to go into the pockets of Americans, American companies spent it to get into the pockets of the .gov, classy.

it doesn't take any wind out of my sails, cause IDGAF about this shit like you guys do.

perhaps you'd like to open a discussion about the universality of non-discretionary private or corporate campaign contributions, then we can talk. but to pointedly accuse president Obama, as if he's the only robber in town, well, that's blinded to say the least.

This wasn't strictly about his all mighty OBAMA it was about the waste of taxpayers dollars in period of time say 07 till present that we really should be watching to what state's we owe money to.

It was a waste of our damn tax payers wages plain and simple. Surprised to hear some arguments for wasteful spending.

well, its not like the pres gives a shit what we all think anyways. he has no shame when it comes to spending money on big things like this and vacations when most of us are just happy to be employed.

                      bu then, he earned it

Where did the $300M figure come from?

Every source I can find pegs the cost at slightly more than half of what the OP suggests, and he completely leaves out the fact that the event creates about $60 million in revenue for the area, not including the airlines. Left out as well is the fact that the costs of the party and ball that followed (roughly $45 million) were paid for by private donations (up to $50,000 per donor) to Obama's Inauguration committee.

Starts to look like a complete non-issue when exposed to the light of fact.

But please: continue to ignore the fact that the country is being robbed blind by the big banks and their all-too-friendly minions in the Legislature.

It was from Yahoo a few days ago. I was curious as to how much they were estimating the event to cost overall.

No, we as the general public should not ignore.

The airlines are going to fly to DC everyday and will continue too. Donations were down sharply if you did some reading as well.

Bullshit you were curious. You didn't show a hint of intrigue into how they came up with the estimate, you didn't even provide a link to the supposed article so the rest of us could examine it. You heard somewhere that the inauguration would cost some absurd amount of money and you jumped on another chance to bitch about Obama's reckless spending. There was no curiosity, no critical thinking, just an immediate, predictable knee-jerk reaction to something that reaffirms your preconceived notions about the President.

one would think the pres might have a bit more humility in the face of 8% unemployment, record foodstamps etc
