when things are avoided in practice, there's usually a reason.
like i said, it IS a lot of force projection capability in one place.
if this is an exercise and i'm playing OpFor, i want: a black wetsuit, a rebreather, 5 satchel charges, and a few hours, and i'll see how close i can get to USS Cole versions 2 through 6. (for those who have trouble reading between lines- this has a precedent, and i'm changing just enough stuff to evade the security policies that resulted from the Cole bombing. this is what the bad guys do.)
even if i only get one boat, i spent less than $10k to cause damage that's very likely an exponent of my cost.
even if i only kill one service member, that's his/her $400k life insurance policy, and then all the other costs associated with us losing someone.

I'm with Mr Sleeve it is a large risk. But mabye its because I live in San Diego and understand what could be lost. Someone thinks these vessels are not susceptible to attack is naive. If we were to loose just two of these boats our naval capacity would still take a pretty large hit. But I'm just arm chairing this because I'm not a govt official telling you everything is ok.

Weather they are sitting in port or are churning the seas they are costing the taxpayers $. So for them to sit around in port like that is darn spooky. You don't keep blue water fleet tied up at berth.

I wasn't around yesterday. I was at work doing a local. We are still flying and a lot of it.
Our Civilians they are going to a 4 day work week but they can just convert to military for the extra day for pay.
Think of it this way they are essentially saving some money but the books are getting cooked yet again.Comment
