no, i'm not. preparedness to be able to shoot anyone at any time is the reason for these targets, as detailed in the story.

I find the topic of this thread rather unsettling and indicative of the greater more disturbing picture especially when coupled with many other things going in the last 18 months (see my drone thread, DHS buying 2700 IED resistant APC's for domestic use, buying up 2 Billion rounds, etc...).

This type of thing is really nothing new at all. They use these kinda targets in high intensity high stress training. To train operators to look at the hands, posture, and the WHOLE person not just the face or the fact they are young, old, or a woman to determine if they are a threat or not. They will set these up in a course of fire with a similar or same looking person with the weapon in 1 place on run thought the course. And then the next have the same/similar person in a different spot not armed or in less threatening position.

It trains the operators to actually LOOK at the whole target and identify quickly friend, foe, or something in between. Not just look for the ol standard "fat guy with a stocking cap on" "crack head with a knife" and "Solider with a dead tooth" targets. These are not to desensitize (though that may be a limited side effect) operators to shooting little kids, prego women, and the elderly it more to help keep them form shooting these targets unless its truly necessary. With all the botched No Knock raids on the wrong house where they kill innocent home owners, or fuck up and shoot people they should not when they do hit the right house, I feel these guys need all the help they can get.

Why we have a para military police force is a totally different debate though!!!! And dont for 1 second think I condone the actions of a No knock raid or these kinda urban combat units with in our domestic police forces.
