    Holy DOW!

I'm not as investment savvy as GWB or RWH but to the layperson it certainly sounds impressive, closing at an all time high tonight after a steady climb all week. I also just heard that hiring is up and unemployment has dropped to 7.7%

Even personally, I have a phone interview set up for this monday even though I am already employed. The new position would pay more though and allow us to relocate closer to my wife's workplace. Her company paid out a couple thousand more in bonus's this year and she was actually able to pay off the smaller of her two student loans.

I also dropped off my snowmobile engine at local Polaris dealer a couple weeks ago to have a new water pump seal installed and was pretty surprised/frustrated that it took them two weeks.(It's only about 30 minutes worth of labor if you've got the special tool) Well I picked it up today and their shop was filled with sleds - he said they've been slammed with servicing old sleds and new sales. You don't piss money away on these things if you're struggling, so that spoke volumes for me.

DOW is a fantasy playground where people with money play. It bears no meaning on my reality.

It does if your reality is part of modern society. Of course if you are completely self sufficient, live off the land type, then I commend you for your independence. Otherwise the stock market does have some influence on your life, whether you participate in it or not.

My business is doing great (residential construction dependent) and has been for the past year and a half. 2011 was the turning year for us where we were all seeing better business. Everyone is busy as hell again. I blame Obama.

Nah. If there's a bunch of layoffs and they say it's because of stock market, that's just an excuse. Or a complete shit company making near-sighted decisions. It's not a good indicator of jobs or how much money people will spend.

I'm of the opinion that most of us don't even own stocks. Which, depending on which search result I click is between 45%-55% so not _totally_ accurate, but most of us that DO have any is just via retirement firm. The market's month to month fluctuations are irrelevant.
