That's the attitude I had until I was diagnosed with epilepsy after having a seizure out of the blue. Boy were those ER spa visits expensive! I'm one of those scum all of you guys are talking about but I'm part of MediCal. Without it I was being quoted north of $1000. I'm torn between my ideals but how the else would I fucking pay for this shit as a 26 year old?

Before the Affordable Care Act you would have been denied any kind of coverage because your condition would be classified as a pre-existing condition. The fact that you now have a legal right to seek and obtain health care without that restriction (as well as without annual and lifetime limits) is one reason the health care premiums are rising.
I'll state it more clearly: health care premiums were already rising rapidly before Obama took office but even then they were being kept artificially low through a bunch of scam policies run by insurance agencies to exclude people from coverage.
Anyone who has had the displeasure of dealing with an insurance agency after a procedure already knows the bullshit they'll put you through that usually results in something or other not being covered even though it was supposed to be.Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!Comment

Getting a little heated over here
Just thought this was a interesting place for a first postWhat's really bullshit is being stuck in the middle. I'm an amputee (clutch leg, but I still manage to work the gears) and my prosthetic has worn out. I can't afford a platinum health plan, but I make just enough to not qualify for any welfare (not that I would take it, but that's another story). So, a prosthetic is $45K, and my insurance will cover $2K. My rates have tripled since Obama has been in office and my coverage has gotten worse. To top it all off, my insurance company just let me know that the two drugs I take for pain are no longer covered for me. Something's gotta give. But I don't necessarily trust the Republicans to sort it out any better than the Democrats did while they were in power.

But wouldnt you rather pay more money for a more stable system that doesn't screw over the minority that has been without affordable healthcare the whole time
Who knows maybe you could end up with a debilitating injury that would have previously excluded you from heathcareComment

Why should some one else have to pay for whats wrong with me? But as it sits what do I know about making any of this affordable?
But good lord are insurance companies the devil to deal with. I swear I've been redirected to departments that don't exist.

No, it's pretty easy if you're not a fucking idiot.
Apparently you're so clueless about the subject at hand that you actually believed someone if they told you that healthcare costs were decreasing for the last 25 years. Take some some time and learn about the subject at hand before you post.
Don't look at it that way, that is the exact purpose of insurance. Don't feel bad about it!Comment

Well, if it makes you feel better I pay into the taxes (federal, state, and local) that subsidize your healthcare and I fully support my decision to do so.
In fact, I'm not happy with all the money that's taken out of my paychecks but I consider ensuring that people in my community have access to basic healthcare is one of the silver linings of my tax obligations.Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!Comment

Fuck you Obama
So this is an Article I wrote a while back. I implore everyone to read it.
"The Patient Protection and Affordable Healthcare Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, is the future of our countries' healthcare system. Unfortunately. Obamacare is another way for our government to gain power over our healthcare system. In order to empower patients, lower costs, and ensure access to healthcare, we must repeal Obamacare. The 2700 page bill was pushed through Congress without anyone actually reading it through. The consequences of pushing this bill through will affect all income family levels.
“For us to say that you’ve got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase,” Obama said to ABCs George Stephanopoulos, “You can’t just make up that language and decide that that’s called a tax increase.” Yet the highest court in the land, The Supreme Court, ruled it as such. In Obamacare, there are 21 ‘hidden’ taxes that will affect all middle and upper class families. Yet, Obama ensured the public that raising taxes on the middle class to support his health care plan was, “The last thing we need in an economy like this… Folks are already having a tough time.” So then, why is it that families making $120,000 a year will pay an additional $4,750 dollars a year from these hidden taxes?
Hard times, indeed. Yet the media is silent about these 21 taxes that will affect more than half of families making under $250,000 a year: A 2.3% tax increase on U.S. sales of medical devices, that’s a $20 million dollar burden on an already struggling medical industry which employs roughly 400,000 people. There is another $27 million tax on medical companies on top of the $20 million dollar tax on medical devices, which in return raises prices of prescriptions, wheelchairs, pace makers, braces and other medical necessities. There is a 3.5% surtax on investment income, thus lowering incentive to invest. A $24 billion dollar tax on paper industries. $2.3 Billion-a-year tax on drug companies; a %10 excise tax on tanning salons. Yes even when you tan your hide, you’ll be paying for Obamacare through a 10% tax!
There is an $87 Billion tax hike on Medicare employees and the self-employed. There is a 1% income tax increase, rising to 2.5% by 2016, if an individual refuses to go on Obamacare by buying a policy that’s not ok’d by our nanny government. A $60 billion tax on health insurers and a 40% excise tax on higher cost (with better benefits) health-care plans. There is a 3.8% surtax on investment income from capital gains for individuals making $200,000 a year or married couples who make $250,000 a year. There is a $50,000 excise tax on charitable hospitals that fail to meet rules set by The Department of Health and Human Services. That’s just the taxes! And middle class families are directly affected because of the higher prices companies are forced to charge in order to pay for Obamacare. Also, premiums on average have already increased by up to $3,000 a year. President Obama said premiums would go down.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) predicted that Obamacare will cost $950 billion for the next 10 years, but then raised it to $1.76 trillion. Because our government has no extra money, it will have to take a trillion dollars (that's 1,000,000,000,000 dollars) more from tax payers just to pay for the first 10 years. Every year after 2021, Obamacare will cost more than a quarter of a trillion dollars based on today’s estimates. Obamacare will add $75 billion to our deficit a year, that’s a half of a trillion dollars more to our deficit by the end of 2020.
Since the passing of Obamacare, employers have been forced to lay off hundreds to thousands of employees because they cannot afford their health insurance. Michigan based Stryker Corp. has laid off 1000 workers; Indiana based Zimmer Corp has laid off 450, and is taking a $50 million charge against earnings. Medtronic expects an annual charge off of $175 million against earnings. In other words, Obamacare cost jobs.
Business owners, big and small, will be forced to pay for their employees’ healthcare. That’s a $52 billion tax hike on businesses, which in return creates layoffs. CBO Director Douglas Elmendorf confirmed at the house budget committee that Obamacare will cost America 800,000 jobs! This law's tax on business will decrease investment, which leads to lack of production, which results in $706 billion in fewer goods. If employers fail to offer employees health insurance, they will be charged $2,000 each employee per year as a penalty tax. So Obamacare imposes high taxes on business owners, creating fewer jobs and higher prices for you.
Nearly one-quarter of all seniors rely on Medicare for their medical treatments and benefits, but since Obamacare takes $500 billion from medicare, more than half of seniors will lose this type of health coverage. Currently, there are about 20 million Americans who are uninsured by choice. Obamacare forces them to buy healthcare they may not want. The idea of everyone getting healthcare is also false. The CBO projects that between the years 2019- 2022, after Obamacare is fully enacted, 20 million Americans will be without healthcare, because Obamacare will cost businesses more than expected. According to the CBO, employers, big and small, are very likely to completely drop insurance coverage for employees. So much for Obama's promise that, “If you like your coverage, you can keep it.”
Obamacare expands the government's role as primary health provider by adding many more people to the Medicaid program, which only reimburses doctors approximately 56% of their charges. As a result, 66% of doctors say they are considering not accepting this government health program. America already has a shortage of doctors, so by implementing Obamacare, the amount of doctors available will decrease by potentially over 62%. This means, everyone will have Obamacare, but few will actually have a doctor.
Lets talk about possibly the scariest thing about this new law, IPAB. The Independent Payment Advisory Board is a group of 15 unelected government “experts” appointed by Obama. They’re purpose is to issue “legislative proposals” on Medicare spending and cuts, which as said before, can greatly jeopardize seniors' access to healthcare. Obamacare requires that The Secretary of Health and Human Services must implement the"proposals" IPAB makes; making them law automatically. These “proposals” require a 3/5 vote of Congress in order to change or repeal them. In other words, it requires a 3/5 majority in the House and a 3/5 majority in the Senate AND the President’s signature to change or repeal these proposals. This makes the members of IPAB more powerful than Congress itself! IPAB has the ability to make new taxes, spend money where they like, place conditions on federal grants to states, and exercise other powers reserved by the Constitution to Congress. Obamacare prevents Congress from repealing IPAB outside a small window in 2017, and even then it requires a 3/5 majority in both chambers of Congress to repeal it. If Congress fails to repeal IPAB in 2017, then in 2020 Congress loses power to restrain IPAB at all. These super-legislators have the power to tell your grandparents that they are too old or too sick to get medical care.
Obamacare was passed in 2012 without a single Republican vote. A recent ABC- Washington Post poll shows that Americans oppose the law 52% to 41% and 67% think the Supreme Court should protect us from being forced to buy health insurance. President Obama said you could keep your current policy if you like it. You can't. He said prices would go down. They've gone up. So Is Obamacare really moving “forward”? I think not.

Also... Obama said you can keep your plan and doctor right? Well as a type one Diabetic I liked my plan and my doctor. But guess what? I got a letter, about a year ago, saying i lost me plan and doctor because its not covered with the Affordable HealthCare Act... So I have to settle for a crappy plan and makes me have a higher co-pay for less coverage. Not including how expensive my insulin has become now.
